I was also homeschooled, from 2nd grade up until 9th, and, while many adults would have told you that I was far more mature, developed, well-read, and open-minded than most other people my age, I've still got a lot of very deep-seated emotional problems and such. My parents weren't fundy, or even religious - I was only homeschooled because all of my teachers at that point had been absolute bitches who had no idea how to teach. Of course, I despise public school anyway.
Papabear:
"School is not just about what is taught in class, but also about learning to get along with people, forming friendships, getting your heart broken, meeting all sorts of people and dealing with all of it."
This is bullshit.
"Getting along with people"
I get along with people well enough, but whenever I'm forced to work with someone, it's always a n irresponsible, hardcore dumbass, and I end up doing all of the work with the added distraction of this stupid fuck being annoying and taking credit for the work. I completely realize that this is the way it is in real life, but it's not like I'm ever going to become 'okay' with it, so it's a bad idea to force it on me.
"forming friendships"
Hh heh heh... No. The only people I've ever been able to remotely consider as 'friends' have been absolute detriments to my self-esteem, and I ended up absolutely hating them. I always end up being the 'whipping boy', the joke of the group who the others only hang around to look better in comparison.
"getting your heart broken"
No. Just no. High school is not about romance, and anyone who enters a relationship when they're in high school is a fucking moron. Words cannot describe the pure vitriol and rant-worthy hate I have towards this subject.
"meeting all sorts of people and dealing with all of it."
Not where I live, pal. At my school, it's just an endless assembly-line of hardcore rednecks, violent fundies, wannabe gangstas and self-propogating 'tough guy' latino stereotypes. That's it. There's not many people here for a manic-depressive, bisexual, music-loving, movie-obsessed bookworm who dreams of being a filmmaker to relate to or bond with.
I do, however, deal with all of it... Although as of late, I've been at wit's end with the bullshit manufactured by not only this school, but this whole town (as has the rest of my family).
