My first house WAS haunted. Only way I got it to stop was to move.
It was haunted with shadow people and strange voices.
The people who owned the house before us were witches one of whom had made a demon summoning gate in their living room, which is something their only supposed to do outside. I soon learned why....

Why is it only the fundies that get haunted by demons, ghosts and witches?
Oh wait. I just answered my own question, didn't?
Y'know, when I was a little kid, I thought *my* house was haunted. It was an old Victorian affair, with a slightly broken in roof and dead trees out in the front, looked positively Scooby Doo. The darn house made all sorts of noises at night, like creaking and groaning, and don't get me started on the noises rats make in the walls.
Then I grew up. Why haven't you, O most fundilicious Ebenezvm?
... How the heck do you get a name like Ebenezvm anyway? Did they try and type out Ebenezer and sneeze or something?
"The people who owned the house before us were witches one of whom had made a demon summoning gate in their living room,..."
Holy crap, one of the previous tenants was at least 17th level in his/her spellcasting class!? Gate is a 9th level spell! That is truly impressive! Of course, she probably lost a lost of Experience Points when he or she cast Permanency upon the Gate, but the tenant would still have a really high character level.
OK, let's figure this out:
1.) How do you know the previous owners were witches? That sort of information (religious affiliation) is illegal to be disclosed in a sale. (Death/crime, yes, religious rituals, no.)
2.) If you KNEW they were witches, why in blazes did you buy their house? At least douse it in holy water or bring a priest!
3.) Demon Gate? Umm... was a copy of Buffy included with the sale? I got nothing for that one and I'm trying really hard here!!!!
My first house WAS haunted.
My ass is haunted too. Parts of it move unexpectedly, and it makes terrible roaring noises in the dead of night. I'm hoping to get Father Karras in to exorcise it.
Wasn't this a bit in Blackadder 2 where Baldric tells the story of a nasty, foul smelling ghost that used to haunt his parent's hovel? Mysteriously, when he moved out, the ghost disappeared.
I'm definitely not a fundy (nor am I insane) and I lived in a house with strange phenomena for a while.
I jokingly said it was haunted because I had no explanation for the cold spots, banging noises, whispering voices, feeling of a hand touching you on the back when you were alone in the hall, etc.
I still don't know what caused it all, but it was fun to see vistors get freaked out.
And did duct tape stop working once it entered the door?
Okay, I'm starting to get a picture of your problem..
@Lilith: Some scientists are starting to think infrasound has a psychological effect on humans that could explain that sort of thing. Banging could be water hammer as described on the Wikipedia that I forgot how to link to, or nails popping or someshit.
Yes I did have to try to explain that.

That was in Blackadder the Third, in the episode with the Scarlet Pimpernel.
Confused?
