Hey james ..... it is obvious you don't feel that this country was founded on the belief in god. well I feel sorry for you; but Becky was right. this country was founded explicictly for that reason; the founding fathers and the settlers themselves were seeking a new country to escape religous persecution that was going on all over europe. Y ou could do yourself some good by sitting back and examining America today; as opposed to just fifty years ago, people then were looking to find that missing something in thier lives, today society just covers it up with all kinds of things of the world and doesn't want to have anything to do with Jesus our lord and savior; That is why the world including America is getting in worse and worse shape almost on a Daily basis..... Fifty years ago would you have heard of a soldier shooting fellow soldiers? no you wouldn't because there was love for our fellow man then. People don't care for one another like they used to.

The Massachusetts Bay colony was founded by those seeking religious freedom. Other colonies were founded as strictly economic ventures. Funny how you left that out.
Actually, there are stories of soldiers shooting soldiers on their own side from both World Wars, over fifty years ago. Just because you weren't alive to hear about it on the news doesn't mean it didn't happen.
The founding of the colonies and the founding of the country were two distinct historical events, separated by, depending on the colony, upwards of 150 or more years.
Well, something bad did happen 48 years ago. November 22, 1963 to be exact.

Swing and a miss, there, Sparky. The earliest American settlers came to America for different reasons. The Puritans, up in Massachusetts, did indeed come from religious reasons. Most of the founding fathers, however, came for other reasons, and some of the most important colonies, such as Virginia, were founded on the principle of money, slavery, and tobacco.
Fragging, i.e. shooting fellow soldiers and making it look like an accident, as been around as long as guns have. Overt shooting rampages have ALSO been around as long as guns have. Actually America, and the world, is getting better as time passes. Compare any time in history with any previous time in history, and there is less violence. Even the 20th century, with its two world wars, was less violent than previous centuries. (Search 'violence' on www.ted.com for a fascinating video on this).

American Civil War?
WW1: Russian soldiers rebel against terrible conditions, equipment and leadership against a vastly superior equipped foe by shooting officers and deserting.
Weimar Germany: Frequent clashes between Communist and Nazi paramilitary groups made up of former (and sometimes current) soldiers.
Spainish Civil War 1936.
WW2: much the same as WW1 with officers shooting soldiers for desertion and soldiers shooting officers to desert.
Soldiers kill all the time, it's their job. Not all that surprising that a nutjob soldier would shoot at the wrong team.

I have always found the old "They came here for religious freedom" saying to be misleading. It seems to imply that they thought everyone should have religious freedom, rather than the freedom to practice their narrow interpretation of Christianity. Indians or anyone else were often times shit out of luck.
Everything was much better in the past. Famine bread made of sawdust and acorns, pogroms, cat burning, the use of urine as detergent, breaking on the wheel. Everything fucking sucks in these End Times.

I have a theory: The first day that early civilizations were established, people were happy. On the second day, some people looked at each other and said that things were so much better back on that first day and that civilization was going to hell in a handbasket.
