Hey james ..... it is obvious you don't feel that this country was founded on the belief in god. well I feel sorry for you; but Becky was right. this country was founded explicictly for that reason; the founding fathers and the settlers themselves were seeking a new country to escape religous persecution that was going on all over europe. Y ou could do yourself some good by sitting back and examining America today; as opposed to just fifty years ago, people then were looking to find that missing something in thier lives, today society just covers it up with all kinds of things of the world and doesn't want to have anything to do with Jesus our lord and savior; That is why the world including America is getting in worse and worse shape almost on a Daily basis..... Fifty years ago would you have heard of a soldier shooting fellow soldiers? no you wouldn't because there was love for our fellow man then. People don't care for one another like they used to.

Okay, time for me to finally be the first to say:
TREATY OF TRIPOLI BITCH!
Oh, and the usual, you are a fucking moron.
The Massachusetts Bay colony was founded by those seeking religious freedom. Other colonies were founded as strictly economic ventures. Funny how you left that out.
Actually, there are stories of soldiers shooting soldiers on their own side from both World Wars, over fifty years ago. Just because you weren't alive to hear about it on the news doesn't mean it didn't happen.
The founding of the colonies and the founding of the country were two distinct historical events, separated by, depending on the colony, upwards of 150 or more years.
Well, something bad did happen 48 years ago. November 22, 1963 to be exact.
Joe McCarthy comes to mind, too. That's 50 years ago at least.
"Fifty years ago would you have heard of a soldier shooting fellow soldiers?"
Yes, it just wouldn't have been a 24/7 newsfeed.
"the settlers themselves were seeking a new country to escape religous persecution..."
No they weren't, they were seeking a new country where they could *indulge* in religious persecution after being throw out of Holland for their extremist views and unwillingness to follow the legally constituted laws of the land. Don't you know anything about your own history?
"...doesn't want to have anything to do with Jesus our lord and savior"
Because he doesn't exist, he *never* existed, and the majority of educated people aren't mentally ill or brain damaged.
Swing and a miss, there, Sparky. The earliest American settlers came to America for different reasons. The Puritans, up in Massachusetts, did indeed come from religious reasons. Most of the founding fathers, however, came for other reasons, and some of the most important colonies, such as Virginia, were founded on the principle of money, slavery, and tobacco.
Fragging, i.e. shooting fellow soldiers and making it look like an accident, as been around as long as guns have. Overt shooting rampages have ALSO been around as long as guns have. Idiots like you just have selective amnesia because it suits you to play the victim card and say everything is going to hell in a handbasket.
Actually America, and the world, is getting better as time passes. Compare any time in history with any previous time in history, and there is less violence. Even the 20th century, with its two world wars, was less violent than previous centuries. (Search 'violence' on www.ted.com for a fascinating video on this).
This proves that crime ratest are getting lower the less god there is in US:

Could it be that, since people are getting more of "all kinds of things of the world" that people are more inclined not to turn to crime?
Actually, it was about money for the merchant class.
And the Pilgrims were kind of the RR Fundies of their day. Nobody liked them because they didn't contribute a lot, spent all their time telling others why they were hellbound, and were full of hypocrisy.
Your nostalgia is bullshit: World War I says so. Bukowski says so. Chandler says so. THE BIBLE says so.
"Fifty years ago would you have heard of a soldier shooting fellow soldiers?"
What a maroon!
American Civil War?
WW1: Russian soldiers rebel against terrible conditions, equipment and leadership against a vastly superior equipped foe by shooting officers and deserting.
WW1: The punishment in most military's for desertion is death by firing squads made up of other soldiers.
Weimar Germany: Frequent clashes between Communist and Nazi paramilitary groups made up of former (and sometimes current) soldiers.
Spainish Civil War 1936.
WW2: much the same as WW1 with officers shooting soldiers for desertion and soldiers shooting officers to desert.
Soldiers kill all the time, it's their job. Not all that surprising that a nutjob soldier would shoot at the wrong team.
"Fifty years ago would you have heard of a soldier shooting fellow soldiers?"
No, we would be hearing of police shooting people for trying to vote. People care for each other now more than they used to.
"That is why the world including America is getting in worse and worse shape almost on a Daily basis"
At the risk of a Godwin, I'd suggest that that period of history from, say, roughly 1938-1945 was a whole fucking worse than right now.
But then I'm not a pig-ignorant christianist whose world view requires that everything must always be going to hell in a hand basket and getting worse every day in order to confirm my moronic beliefs.
I'd also think that the era of the black death was worse than now. But I'm sure fundies would have loved it when there was none of this satanic modern medicine and all they could do was pray as member after member of their families died horrible, painful deaths in their mud-floored home.
World War I and the 1918 flu were pretty rough too, killed more than 100 million worldwide and, again, in my opinion were many degrees of worse than anything going on today.
So I guess I'd say in conclusion, fuck you Brian, you're an idiot.
"Fifty years ago would you have heard of a soldier shooting fellow soldiers?"
You never heard of "fragging" in Vietnam? I'm sure it happened in probably every American war. Troops don't like being led by morons who are going to get them killed for no good reason.
I assume you're talking about the 1950's where
~ people were building bomb shelters in their back yards
~ Dr. Oppenheimer was called a communist for giving money to a food bank
~ Women & children were just supposed to put up with the beatings
~ Coloured folks were second class citizens
Leave it to Beaver was not a fucking documentary.
I have always found the old "They came here for religious freedom" saying to be misleading. It seems to imply that they thought everyone should have religious freedom, rather than the freedom to practice their narrow interpretation of Christianity. Indians or anyone else were often times shit out of luck.
Everything was much better in the past. Famine bread made of sawdust and acorns, pogroms, cat burning, the use of urine as detergent, breaking on the wheel. Everything fucking sucks in these End Times.
Ok, and the constitution, WHICH IS WRITTEN, what does it say?. Remember that those "fathers" were still ENGLISH.
> just fifty years ago, people then were looking to find that missing something in thier lives, today society just covers it up with all kinds of things of the world and doesn't want to have anything to do with Jesus <
Gee, it's almost as if they found what they were looking for and it wasn't jesus. Sorta . . . pisses you off, doesn't it?
Fifty years ago would you have heard of a soldier shooting fellow soldiers? no you wouldn't because there was love for our fellow man then. People don't care for one another like they used to.
Fifty years ago, good Christian men would lynch a black man for simply looking at a white woman, or for talking back to them. Don't give me that crap about caring for one another more than we do today.
The America you remember so fondly never existed.
One of the comments says:
God should be allowed in schools and every public and private place on this earth . After all it was Him who created it and gave us life and can take it away from us !!! I don't care who you are ,ever the so call non believers you get hurting bad enough you call on him . The schools didn' have the violence they have in them today when God was in school .
So wait..you are telling me that I must allow God (I know in your meaning that means make people pray, make people believe, force my kids to believe even though I am an atheist) in my PRIVATE home now?
I thought your type was conservative.
Life sure was better when Mummy used to cook your meals, cleaning your bedroom was all the work you had to do, pocket-money came free, storks brought babies, Santa brought presents and there were no such things as sex, violence, crime or bigotry.
It's a shame how much worse the world has gotten since then.
</explanation>
I have a theory: The first day that early civilizations were established, people were happy. On the second day, some people looked at each other and said that things were so much better back on that first day and that civilization was going to hell in a handbasket.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
