[How is christianity the "one true religion"?]
Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great but everything I'm about to say is total fact about the bible and the christian religion. The Bible has the most Archeological evidence out of any holy text in any other religion, Archeologists even use the Bible as a reference source to locate things, and evertime they dig where it says there is something, they find something! Also Every holy text has atleast one hundred prophecies but did you know that the Bible is the only holy text where ALL the prophecies in it other than revalations(which is set in the future, at least thats what most christians believe) have come true. Also about Jesus the reason we believe that he is the saviour is because he fulfilled all the prophecies that were made about him from more than a thousand years back, even ones that he could have no way to fulfill himself, like where he was born or how he was born.
The miracles camn also be proven true. They found the city Jericho a while back, you know the one that the Jews marched around and then the walls fell OUTWARD and then they walked in and burned everything, and Then God said that no one would ever lie on that spot ever again? Well when they found Jericho they noticed that the walls had in fact fallen OUTWARD, and when they walked inside the city they saw that all the grain had been burnt. Now let me tell you something, it would have been totally impossible for a little nomadic group for the Jews to topple the walls of Jericho, not to mention sneak into it and then topple it, cause they didn't have any equipment to do it with, and it had to have been them who had done it because we know they got past Jericho, and that they had no allies to do it for them. and also something else, since Jericho was toppled no one has built over the city to live there! the new Jericho they built is built a few miles away. Thats why christians believe what's in the Bible.

"Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great but everything I'm about to say is total fact about the bible and the christian religion"
After all, teenagers know everything. When I was a teenager, I knew everything too.
Child,
A book written after the fact, can include any range of prophecies as the authors (plural) already know of the events they are writing about. The bible does not contain prophecies of Jesus 1000 years before he was born but rather the prophecies it does mention were written 100's of years after Jesus supposadly lived and died.
The 'walls of Jericho' are very interesting from a historical stand point but only really serve to show that the authors of the bible did include some actual events in history.
Whether the walls fell down because of the power of God or because of an earthquake, we will probably never be able to say with certainty, but, occams razors clearly indictates that we should go with the earthquake as being the simplest and most plausible explanation.
"Archeologists even use the Bible as a reference source to locate things, and evertime they dig where it says there is something, they find something!"
So the bible's a treasure map too now?
"Also Every holy text has atleast one hundred prophecies but did you know that the Bible is the only holy text where ALL the prophecies in it other than revalations(which is set in the future, at least thats what most christians believe) have come true."
Ummm - does this imply that there are prophecies that are set in the past?
I actually heard the Jews used ninjas to attack Jericho, and practiced genocide in battle so they could tell their own version of every story.
This is all history stuff anyway, the walls of a city could be expected to collapse after this much time anyway, and the Bible's internal contradictions and misinterpretations discredit it enough.
Homeschooled I assume ;)
But I agree, from a historical standpoint the bible has its worth, as, aside from myths it also contains historical events.
As he mentions Jericho, one should mention as well, that Jericho also can serve as evidence against young earth creationism, as the first settlement at this place has been dated to be 11000 years old; older than earth according to YECs
It should also be noted that there were de facto advanced defensive structures, whose destruction however is dated 300 years before the Jews allegedly left egypt.
I lived near Jericho for almost 12 years, working as an archaeologist. This guy is full of bovine excrement.
The event (in an earthquake zone) took place long before Yeshua bin Miriam (Jesus to you - a name created by the Romans) was around.
Tell me, why do "Christians" follow the Old Testament, yet ignore the teachings of the New Testament in thier thoughts and actions?
@Michael
Maybe because in most cases these christian fundamentalists aren´t guided by the bible but use the bible as justification for their own moral agenda.
So that they can say things like:
"It is not only me who thinks that that homosexuality (or naked breasts) is immoral. Just look at the Bible, Passages x, y and z and you´ll see that they are an abomination in the sight of the lord, meaning that everyone who does such things will burn in the fiery furnaces of hell"
And in many cases the old testament comes closer to their moral standpoints (for example concerning homosexuality) than the new testament.
So they so a little cherry picking, stating that certain passages of the old testament are valid till today (everything fitting into their moral standards) whereas other passages aren´t valid anymore thanks to Jesus (for example laws that are rather ridiculous today, such as the law against eating shellfish, or all laws where people have to be stoned)
I might add that these fundamentalists are only a minority (although a very loud minority) and most christians in the world are rather sane (and also don´t take the bible literal) ;)
and evertime they dig where it says there is something, they find something!
So true, sadly they never find what they are looking for, just earth and dirt and shit.
Truly, the moment one of your 'scientist' mudcrawlers would succeed in locating that fabled arc of yours or just about anything mentioned the OT, it would be paraded down every know street in the universe to show us unbelievers that you have been right all along.
But sofar, no armour or chariots in the red sea, no Naoh's arc, no nothing, zilch, nada, noppes .....
Being 15 is no excuse for poor grammar, it's also no excuse for stupidity. It's pretty obvious you haven't done any real research on the bible, instead it seems like you're just regurgitating the same old "answers in genesis" type bullshit that you've been told. If archaeologists discover an ancient city that was mentioned in the bible, this does not in any way prove the existence of your god. It just means that the people who wrote the books lived in the Middle East and knew of these places. I really never understood why Christians think "OMG, they found the city of Jericho and the Jews wrote about Jericho so it must mean God exists!!!" That's like saying "OMG there's a country called Greece so that PROVES Zeus is the supreme god!" See how dumb that sounds? I hope you grow out of your gullibility and learn to think for yourself.
and evertime they dig where it says there is something, they find something!
...So, the Bible gives coordinates now?
You are only fifteen, so I still have hope that you'll realise you're full of shit and learn something different. However, the finding of the ruins of Jericho only indicates that the writers of the bible (men) knew of these places, and invented a story about it to placate the ignorant at the time. It worked rather well, didn't it? Its still working on ignorant idjits now. Saying Jericho is proof of god's existence is like saying the Temple of Karnak is proof the Ancient Egyptian pantheon of gods existed.
Yeah, I knew it all when I was a teenager too and no one could tell me differently.
Fortunately for me, I was allowed to explore that and make my mistakes and learn from them and grow up. I can only hope the same for you.
But, the first sentence: "Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great but everything I'm about to say is total fact about the bible and the christian religion", makes me think you're lying through your teeth somewhere. Most 15 year olds don't tell the world they're only 15 and use it as an excuse for something; that's part of knowing it all as a teen.
I think you're a fake.
Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great...
I won't bust your chops since you're just a kid. To be frank you are failing to engage in critical thinking.
...it would have been totally impossible for a little nomadic group for the Jews to topple the walls of Jericho...
There may not have been enough Jews hanging around outside Jericho to pull the walls down but apparently there were more than enough to get on with slaughtering every single living creature in the city: men; women; children; livestock. There were also plenty of Jews on hand to cart off the valuables: gold, silver, brass, and iron. You can find the story in Joshua chapter 6.
I'll say the same thing I say to my eight year old--I can't tell you what you should believe but I can tell you to think about everything you are told or that you've read. Five minutes of critical thinking can, in most circumstances, save you a boat-load of trouble down the road.
"Alright, I'm only 15"
DONE
Also about Jesus the reason we believe that he is the saviour is because he fulfilled all the prophecies that were made about him...
The messiah is supposed to be descendent of David, but Bible contradicts itself on the details of his family tree: http://youtube.com/watch?v=FavXF2dYzCI . Not to mention that being conceived by God inside a virgin means Joseph is not his father and therefore irrelevant.
Your're only 15 so I'll do you a favor and teach you something instead of ridiculing you.
All those "proofs" you gave us are lies told to you by con men who want you to give them your money. They make shit up that, if you believe it, will make you do whatever advances their agenda. You are their slave, kept in bondage by your own gullibility instead of chains.
Frankly I'm disappointed that so many here are willing to write this kid off on the basis of his age alone. I won't do that because to do is both unfair and close-minded.
I will, however, write the kid off on the basis of the bullshit he's saying because it's shit I've seen regurgitated over and over again now for a few years. For example, when he says:
The Bible has the most Archeological evidence out of any holy text in any other religion, Archeologists even use the Bible as a reference source to locate things, and evertime they dig where it says there is something, they find something!
It's about there that I write him off as Noah's Ark alone is enough to prove he's full of it. And I'm also pretty sure that if what he was saying about Jericho had any credibility it'd be something that would be common knowledge by now.
So my advice to those here, don't disregard what he says because of his age because even the young can know things the elder don't. If you must write him off, do so because the substance of what he says is bullshit.
And my advice to New2102 is to stay in school and stay awake during History/Social Studies.
[
everything I'm about to say is total fact about the bible and the christian religion.]
I presume you have references, then?
[The Bible has the most Archeological evidence out of any holy text in any other religion, Archeologists even use the Bible as a reference source to locate things, and evertime they dig where it says there is something, they find something!]
The Bible also says that the earth is several thousand years old, and that there was a global flood during that time. There is a preponderance of evidence to the contrary, in both cases. Your comments?
[Also Every holy text has atleast one hundred prophecies but did you know that the Bible is the only holy text where ALL the prophecies in it
have come true.]
When were the prophecies written? When did they come true?
I could continue, but it's all beside the point--he hasn't answered the initial question.
The fact that the Bible is right about certain historical facts isn't proof that it's 100% right about everything. Plenty of books of fiction include accurate historical details. As for prophesies, there are plenty of well-known ways to make prophesies come "true": make them vague enough so that they can be interpreted any way you like, make them after the fact, make a whole bunch of them and then pick only the ones that came true by accident, make a prophesy that is almost certain to come true at some point (e.g., there will be a major earthquake somewhere in the next five years).
Here's a good example of the lengths people will go (and the non-biblical rationalizations they'll pull out of thin air) to make the prophesies appear true: Jesus the Nazarene
1. The bible has no archeological evidence to back it up. Just because Jerusalem exists does not make the bible true. Because Memphis and a whole bunch of other cities "also" exist.
2. So have Hindu and indeed Aztec prophecies (much to their loss). And a fair few of the prophecies in the bible were added in after they occurred. And the best way to make a prophecy is to make one so "vague" that it could mean anything. Observe... "A chariot shall fly across the sky, carrying many. It will bring great joy and sadness". This could mean aircraft, the death of Buddy Holly, Atomic weapons, 9/11, Concord or any goddamn thing to do with aircraft.
3. The city of Jericho was far from "impregnable" as the bible states. Infact there is historical evidence for it having fallen more than once. And most middle eastern civilisations were weak sauce compared to what you "think". The city of Jerusalem for instance was heavily fortified by the crusaders and the muslims thus giving it its old school fortified nature. Bronze age settlements tended to have extremely poor defences when compared to the iron age ones. And plenty of people have torn down far greater defences in the past. You seem to think that these people had magic powers to erect giant walls that are usually indicative of large groups of people, engineers and concrete technology. Which these people seemed to not have. Imagery sometimes loses accuracy.
Statistically speaking, how does the OT's track record compare to any random set of "prophecies"? Nostradamus, for instance? Conveniently, the wording of many of these is vague enough to possibly mean anything. Actual places, such as Jericho (accepted to be older than Bishop Ussher's gratuitous addition) are nice to have in scripture, simply as another source. Reputable or not, such stories add color, if not fact, to the larger historical account.
New2102, please don't shut down your critical intellect. Always seek the bigger picture. That's my two cents.
Lad, Jericho is still inhabited today, it has a population of about 25 000, mostly Palastinian Arabs. The area has been continuously settled since before there were enough cities in the world to call a "civilisation".
The walls did fall at some time, true, but they could have been destroyed by an earthquake, or by invaders or both. The Bible could simply be telling a story to glorify its writers (the Hebrews) based on ruins that were right there in front of them.
By analogy, one of the legends of King Arthur is that giants built a huge structure of stones in Ireland, and Merlin then moved the whole thing to Salisbury Plain in England by magic. The evidence? Well Stonehenge is right there on Salisbury Plain for all to see...
I'm afraid not.
But I didn't notice anything especially horrible about your grammar, and considering that this is the internet, that makes it above average, so congratulations!

Maybe there's hope for Noob2102 in the future . . .
or not
Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great
My 15-year-old friends on WC can write like college students. There's no excuse for you.
In reference to every other word this kid says:
Suuuuure, right. When do your friends in white clothing come to take you home, again?
Too bad the archaeological evidence doesn't quite match up with the stories, e.g., the wrecked walls of Jericho predate Joshua by several centuries. It's quite a bit more likely that the nomadic Hebrews were aware of the ruins and made up a story about their ferocious forebears who defeated the city with help from Yahweh as a way to teach the power of their religion.
Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great
Maybe educational standards are a little lax in your area, but where I come from you really should be able to write properly by the time you're fifteen.
The only problem is that for all our evidence, they've found a way around our arguments.
"Carbon dating is incredibly inaccurate, and therefore wrong."
Maybe educational standards are a little lax in your area, but where I come from you really should be able to write properly by the time you're fifteen.
Same here, and French grammar is usually considered quite a bit more difficult than English grammar...
On what basis do you say that Revelation is set in the future? It can't be. Jesus promised that he would return whilst some of those he was speaking to were still living. So, as they are now all dead, he must have already returned and the whole Tribulation is at leat 1900 past. And the Bokk or Revelation's validity has long expired. Check it out and you'll see my core point re Jesus's promise is quite correct. Then tell you pastor and wait to be disfellowshipped for daring to have a mind of your own.
Jericho has never been lost to be found again. And Lo, at the time of Joshua, it was all but abandoned. The wall you so naively refer to belong to a different period. Another point for your pastor.
I'm only 15 and my grammar is fine because I, unlike you, have never been homeschooled by fundie parents who can't even be bothered to throw some facts in with their bullshit periodically. Don't worry though if I can go to Catholic school for 12 years and realize how patently ridiculous the whole religion thing is you too can come to your senses.
You need to read some other books, lots of them. Your grammar is fine, but you are just parroting back what the preacher said without questioning it.
Google is your friend. Go to google and check every single sentence of your post.
Confused?
