“Imagine your kid told you he needed wings. he identifies as a bird or some shit, and therefore needs wings to be able to fly.”
Okay. Am I also able to imagine that this bird-brain phenomenon has been part of human society for 6000 years, and clinically studied for the last 100 or so, and there are programs i can contact to find out what my kid needs? Get him evaluated for either fixed-wing pilot license, or maybe paraglider outings?
Or is this just THE most ridiculous thing you can imagine and you’re trying to make transgendered kids look that silly.
"Being a parent wanting to indulge in your child's playtime,”
It’s not playtime if they really think they really are a real bird. You’ve stepped on your own dick in this analogy.
“you buy your kid some Halloween wings,”
If we’re pretending this is like the transgender situation, i’d go a lot further than this sop to what yoyu think is a whim.
“but the kid turns them down,”
No shit!
“and tells you he wants real wings! that being able to fly is part of his core identity, and without wings he can't live a happy life.”
THen i get him into a program to either get wings or see if this is a reaction to something else. I don’t insist that he’ll never fly.
“Do you A) invests tons of money into experimental surgery”
Experimental? Physical transition in the US goes back to the 1940s. In Europe, further than that.
“Or B) Tell your kid the truth:”
Your truth.
Okay, when i was about 8, my mom and dad were discussing a quote from Sammy Davis Junior. He was talking about how white people had limited options in partners, everyone looking like milk. HE had a full range, everything from dark chocolate to cafe-au-lait.
My first thought was that i would never pick a partner based on whether she ‘went with’ the couch. But out loud, i asked why couldn’t _I_ choose from Dark Chocolate to Milk? My parents sat me down and explained ‘the truth’ to me. In 1969, white kids grew up to marry white kids.
As it turned out, my current partner is more Hershey Kiss than nougat. So that ‘the truth’ talk was their truth at the time, not a universal reality.
"but innate flight will never be possible.”
Again, have to ask if this is in a world with 6000 years of advancements in that exact need.
“Groomers would have us believe A is the better option.”
False Dichotomy. Pretty sure that my option would be at least four letters further along than you’ll ever understand.
