I have spoken to hundreds of Roman Catholics, and when you ask them “Are you a Christian?” most say, “No. I’m a Roman Catholic.” They know the difference. One is steeped in tradition, and the other adheres to the Bible. And the Catholic church didn’t get their information “from the Bible” (it was a banned Book).

Epic fail. The Roman Catholic Church is a sect of Christianity. Despite is failures, machinations, and flaws, it preaches that Jesus died and was resurrected for our sins. That's the only requirement for Christianity. The ironic thing about this is.. who does Mr. Ray believe started the claim that the Bible was the infallible Word Of God?

Excuse me, but the Catholic Church didn't ban the Bible; they CREATED it!

I've spoken to hundreds of Baptists, and when asked "are you a Christian?" most say "No, I'm a Baptist"
The Bible wasn't banned by the Catholic Church. They banned unauthorized translations of it. The Catholic Church follows the Bible. What they don't allow is personal interpretation of it, for the same reason they don't allow unauthorized translation: they believe the Bible has only one meaning. That's why there's only one Roman Catholic Church and about 300 different other Christian sects, each with their own interpretation.

One of the reasons the Catholic Church did not allow for any translation or interpretation than its own was not just to suppress heresy, but to prevent people from obvious misinterpretations. As I understand it, it was the translation into common languages that started the fundamentalist readings of the Bible, as lay people with absolutely no proper education began reading the Bible and believing it to be literally true, literally inerrant and infallible... etc.
It was the Roman Catholics who assembled the first testament you morons!
(BTW does anyone know the name of the Roman Emperor who order the church leaders to decide on one version of the Bible? I think it was either Constantine or Theodosius but not quite sure...)
What the f..??? Oh it's Ray Comfort. Ray is like my second exwife and one of my current bosses, you start out with the assumption that whatever that they are telling you is a lie and you will seldom be proven wrong.Ps I know many, many current and former Catholics. I have NEVER, EVER met one who didn't think that they were Christians. In fact many of them are like fundies, if you don't believe like they do, then you must not be a Christian in their eyes. You lie Ray!
@Annabella - Constantine ordered the church leaders to come to an agreement on the divinity of Jesus (and the Trinity is essentially their compromise position), but the canon that was eventually accepted was the one set forth by Athanasius later in the fourth century without any pressure from the emperor.

You're certainly a brilliant historian, aren't you? The Catholic Church created the fucking Bible you imbecile.
Such arrogance. I personally know a butt load of Catholics and every single one of them calls themselves christian. Funny how when I was at the Vatican while on vacation in Italy, every single person there was professing their christianity. Right in front of the pope!
The bible banned? By whom? And when? And for what reason? And, references to your sources would be nice.
Considering the Catholic church chose which books to include in the bible, why would they then ban it? They banned illiterate, unauthorized translations but that is certainly not the same as banning the bible as a whole. They believed that priests and scholars and those who studied the bible and history and languages were better able to interpret the bible than just any Joe Schmo on the street. You see, it prevented false, uninformed, misguided interpretation. It prevented people from believing the words to be literal. It prevented the people from making the words mean what they want them to mean rather than what they were intended to mean.
Any other historical facts you'd like us to clarify for you?
Ya know, with willfully ignorant self-righteous cretins like you co-opting the name "christian," I'm not surprised that the ones you've spoken to prefer to self-identify as Catholics so they don't get lumped in with you morons.
Or they don't want to be lumped in with Fundies.
And the bible wasn't banned under the Catholic church, it was considered too important to let just any idiot try to figure it out.
Why would it be banned? It wasn't in circulation until the invention of the printing press. Every Bible that existed prior to that was laboriously copied and hand-decorated, page by page, and was immensely valuable (this is why cathedrals chained them in place). And very few people, including the nobility were literate. I doubt if your average serf would spend a lot of time trying to contradict something written in Latin. Ray, you're a moron. But I guess you know that.
"I have spoken to hundreds of Roman Catholics, and when you ask them “Are you a Christian?” most say, “No. I’m a Roman Catholic.”"
Very obvious lie. Not even worth thinking about any deeper than that.
In truth, Ray Comfort (what a nice little ray of comfort you must be!), you are not a Christian either. The religion you follow was invented by Paul. If you were truly Christian, you would be following a sect of Judaism.
Well, I'm a Catholic. If someone asks me, "Are you a Christian?" I respond, "Yes." Sometimes I add the phrase "Catholic, to be precise", if I think specific denomination is relevant.
Also, I have never heard a Catholic refer to themselves as a Roman Catholic. They just use the term "Catholic". That term largely seems to be used by other Christians as some sort of insult.
I think you need a lesson: YOU, Mr. Comfort, are a protestant.
PROTESTANT = CHRISTIAN
CATHOLIC = CHRISTIAN
THE MORE YOU KNOW.
It's been said many, many times before but it bears repeating:
"Ray Comfort, you are a f*cking idiot."
Ray Cumfart
"Way of the FUCKTARD"
Having now seen several posts from Ray Comfort I can only think of two explanations for his idiocy:
1. He's supernaturally stupid.
Or
2. He's a blatant liar who pretends to be into religion to part the suckers from their money.
As I have no time for the supernatural I'm left with the second option. Come to think of it, I'm of the opinion it applies to 99.9% of evangelists.
The saddest point of all this is that maybe he's not extrictly lying. To be lying, he would have to say deliberately, knowing that it's not true, something for his sole benefit.
In this case, the only lie he may have said is that he's met a lot of Catholics and they have given him that answer. However, it's still possible that he has met Catholics that have given him that answer. However, he has maliciously misinterpreted their answer.
What they may actually have said is "I'm not a Christian of your denomination or my theology is radically different from yours because I'm Catholic"(no Catholic calls him or herself "Roman" Catholic). What he does is consider true Christian is anything that resembles Protestant or, even, Calvinist(he is not concerned about Orthodox Christians in Russia or Greece because he may not be aware of their existence), and so, he can pass this, which is false, without feeling guilty.
Another possibility is that he is lying, that is, deliberately passing a false information, only when it comes to the supposed conversations with Catholics. However, he considers that a "white lie", in other words, he invents this little lie in order to make more believable something that he considers to be true but that may not sound credible or shockingly credible if he admits that he's got that info from Chick tracts, other pastors and other people except Catholics themselves.
In other words, he's an incredibly delusional idiot, only that he doesn't want to look so and takes on this dirty tricks.
I don't think most Catholics would answer in that fashion, but the poster does make valid points about Catholics being steeped in tradition and having banned the Bible during the Dark Ages, though I think this was only in some areas and not universally. In some areas the priests got tired of their followers questioning why they themselves didn't follow what Jesus said, so they banned it except for priests, who would feed the congregation their own fitted opinion of it instead.
To be fair, I don't think they are necessarily a fundie; it could just be someone that has never read the Bible cover to cover and doesn't know that it condones heinous acts. Many Christians have not, unfortunately.
Yeah! Those dumb Catholics, they're clearly not Christian. Why, in order to be Christian, you have to believe that Jesus was the son of God and died for your sins, which Catholics I'm pretty sure don't believe at all. And they CERTAINLY don't believe in heaven, or hell, or original sin, or ...
What?
As a Catholic, I can tell you that many do so. Or, of course, that he's misinterpreting another reply they've given. After all, if you have preconceived notions..............
More likely, Ray, they apprehend that you say "Christian" but you mean "Batshit-crazy born again fundie."
Catholicism ain't the One, True Religion, but it's certainly a major form of Christianity.
Also: banned Bibles? Exactly when, you nutjob?
or maybe they realize that all so-called christians (and any sect thereof) are not christians in a true sense of the word, but jesus-worshippers.
in fact, any real christian would probably be considered a satanist by those of the christian religions.
I have spoken to hundreds of Ray Comfort fans, and when you ask them “Are you a Christian?” most say, “No. I’m just a pathetic, gullible asshat.” They know the difference.
No.
Also, the Catholics kinda... y'know, CANONIZED that shit, i.e. there wouldn't BE a "bible" w/o Catholicism?
Have you ever been to a Catholic mass, with a Catholic friend? Rhetorical question, it's obvious you don't and never had any Catholic friends and mean to keep it that way. There is an Old Testament reading, a Psalm, a New Testament reading, and a Gospel. How do you manage this with a banned book?
You might have spoken to hundreds of Mexicans, and when asking them "Are you an American?", most say "No, I'm a Mexican", even though, techinically, they are Northern Americans.
So, Christianity isn't the largest religion then? If it's only Protestants that count, then there are only 800 million Christians, and Christianity is only about 500 years old. Islam is now the largest religion with 1,6 billion, and Catholicism is the second with 1,2 billion.
Comfort food, isn't that the kind that makes you fat?
Confused?
