I would love to live in this fairy tale world where nobody needs gun anymore, but they want us to do this while at the same time arming police officers the same as the military, DHS is buying 2.1 billion rounds of ammo, and 2,700 Armored APCs and not explaining why. No it is not time to put down our weapons yet by a long shot. I will not go gentle into that good night.

Fine. Assuming that you're right and we're headed into a dystopian future of martial law and such, you can instead hold onto your guns, then maybe take out a cop or two before the men in body armor storm your home and take you down. If you somehow manage to drive them off, the armored vehicles will come next, followed by the drones. There is no scenario where you win this. You are not the Taliban. You will not be fighting these people on unfamiliar terrain thousands of miles from their power base in land unfriendly to them. You will, instead, be painted as a rebel or a paranoid nutter by a media that quite a large portion of the country believes after you and your friends are steamrolled by the most technologically advanced fighting force in human history.
So sure, keep your rifles. It won't stop anything. Your patriotism does not reflect bullets, and despite what those horrible novels you pick up at your local Wal-Mart tell you, the righteousness of your cause will not give you any sort of measurable advantage. If what you fear comes to pass? You're boned. Even more thoroughly than the rest of us, because you actively, if futilely, oppose them.

Go to England or Japan. Nobody carries guns, and yet for some reason there's not really a lot of crime.
DHS is buying 2.1 billion rounds of ammo
Every time I see a conspiracy nut talking about this, the number gets larger. Next it'll probably be 2.1 trillion rounds.

It's called a passport, you retard.
"but they want us to do this while at the same time arming police officers the same as the military,"
That is so incredibly vague and irrelevant, I can't help but not care at all.
"DHS is buying 2.1 billion rounds of ammo, and 2,700 Armored APCs and not explaining why."
That's a fish story if I've ever heard one.

As if you morons were all that was standing between us and the government hordes. Yeah, right. You would be like a bug to them. Or even the local police department. Start arming with attack helicopters and nukes and maybe then we'll talk.
Perhaps, if you spent a little less time in your internet/conspiracy circle-jerk, and a lived in the real world, you'd know what happens to dumbfucks that make the grave mistake of shooting cops.
Gun nuts have a similar problem to most libertarians (and it helps that here's a hefty amount of overlap between the two groups) in that they put WAY too much trust in what they think the average American citizen is capable of doing.
Libertarians say Americans are able to self-regulate all industry by, I guess, telepathically knowing what goods are worth it and what goods aren't. We don't need no pesky "government" telling corporations what to do... the Free Market will take care of everything!
Similarly, Gun Nuts say that a group of average Americans would apparently be able to hold off and fight back against a tyrannical regime using nothing but consumer-grade guns (and the odd assault weapon, in areas where they are legal and available) even though they would either be fighting the U.S. military or a force that had already defeated the US military.
Also, Gun Nuts seem to believe that should any laws restricting gun sales be passed, all gun owners in the United States would be able to set up an expert black market meaning anybody would be able to buy any type of gun they wanted easily anyway, and this is somehow reason enough to not pass gun laws.
Now, I consider myself an optimist, but this is WAY beyond the pale in terms of the ingenuity of the average American.

Simple. Move to the UK. The police don't carry guns, there's no DHS and you get free healthcare. What more could you want?
Confused?
