[re: theory of relativity]
A relativist tries to view everything in terms of relativity ... including morality and values and an alleged impossibility of action-at-a-distance like what is described in the Bible

Wait, wait, wait...
So, YOU guys say that killing is wrong - unless god says so
Rape is wrong - unless god says so
Abortion is wrong - unless god says so
Love thy neighbour as thyself - unless he believes something that you don't
Do unto others - in case they're planning to do unto you
And WE are the moral relativists?
Okie.
But.. but.. the theory of relativity doesn't have anything to do with.. I mean, what the...
Why can't they understand that science isn't religion? As we've seen from numerous quotes they expect the theory of evolution to answer where life came from, how the earth and the universe was formed, what the meaning of life is etcetera. This seems to be because they think that evolution=science=atheism=a worldview in contradiction with Christianity, so evolution must answer the same questions that Christianity "answers"...
It's fucked up, sure, but I understand how they think - ignorant as it may be. But now they're expanding the same kind of thinking to every scientific theory? Or what?
moral relativity:
biblical morality approaches absolute truth as velocity approaches c
seriously though, relativity theory is in no way related to moral relativity.
also, action-at-a-distance has been observed, just isn't fully understood yet. try reading up on something before trying to form an argument against it.
He can't be... He...No...But...If this was anyone else I'd scream poe.
Scuse me, I'm off to weep at the state of affairs that led to people looking to this man for knowledge.
Well, I don't know shit from relativity, but 'like what is described in the Bible' is just terrible grammar, man.
TO ANY FICTION WRITERS OUT THERE:
Someone seriously needs to base a character on Andy (if it hasn't been done already). The basic description of the character is a conservative Quixotic figure with insane hubris and extreme close-mindness. Also, he has a voice which is equal parts gay robot and Bert from Seasme Street (seriously, hear him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5RNAYlAxmo , you can also hear how to prounce his last name).
Not exceptionally different than what most Fundies are being taught:
"Science is inherently evil as it has no moral compass."
"All moral absolutes come from God"
This has been hammered into them since childhood. A lot of the friction between Fundies and Realists is that stupid 6000 year old Earth crap they've embraced, that and end-time prophocy.
The oddest thing about that being that despite all the bullshit in the Bible it's not even responsible for those concepts
"A relativist tries to view everything in terms of relativity"
Oh, good god...
"including morality and values and an alleged impossibility of action-at-a-distance like what is described in the Bible"
Of the handful of people on this planet who truly and fully understand relativity, you are obviously not one.
For the person who wanted to know how to pronounce Andy's last name:
"SH" as in "shit", which is what he is full of
"LAF" as in a deep belly laugh whenever you hear the insanity he spews
"LY" as in "LIE" which is what he and his mother are most adept at.
Hope that clears things up
The irony is that in about one year from now, Andy Schlafly will have debased his own language so utterly that even he himself won't have any idea what the fuck he's talking about - let alone anyone else, the gibbering loon.
Andy, bless his cotton socks, trained first as an electrical engineer. He also thinks he knows mathematics and denies the concept of imaginary numbers. Imaginary numbers are based round the constant i; which is the square root of -1. This allows mathematicians to do useful things like find the square root of negative numbers. Seems pretty pointless until you realise that they have many real world applications.
The applications include the study of some fractals, calculations involving nuclear reactions, turbulence in fluids and calculations of phase in AC circuits. This is very important if you are an electrical engineer because it makes the difference between frying and surviving. So how Andy ever got his first degree denying that imaginary numbers exist is beyond me.
Of course it might be that EEs use j instead of i to represent that constant and Andy has never seen they are the same thing
If I were to call someone a fucking retard, or some variation, 40 times during an hour of radio air time? That person would be Andy Schlafly. I really think Phyllis may have had him lobotomized to stop him from playing with his wee-wee. It's hard to believe that any education, no matter how bad, could result in such idiocy without a contributing pathological condition.
"an alleged impossibility of action-at-a-distance like what is described in the Bible"
Wow. It's like someone put an advanced physics textbook and Andy's brain in a blender, just to see what would happen.
Let's see if I can follow Andy's logic.
1) Einstein once said something derogatory about quantum physics using the phrase "action-at-a-distance"
2) Since Einstein IS relativity (the way Darwin IS evolution), relativity must be against "action-at-a-distance"
3) I believe in magic, which can be described as "action-at-a-distance", and I consider myself to be Christian
4) The name "theory of relativity" sounds similar to "moral relativity" which I don't believe in.
Conclusion:
The Theory of Relativity is anti-christian.
My brain hurts.
Anyone ever think that Phyllis just gave Andy Conservapedia to play with, much like you'd give a stupid child a toy to keep him busy? That's the only way I can possibly conceive of anyone this stupid being in charge of something like this.
And you know, the fact that he actually knows how to type just shows how high-functioning he is.
Why is it that so many of these religious freako men look so similar? I mean you can almost look at them and see "Jesus Freak" written on the foreheads....Schlafly, Hovind, Haggard...all have that same "look".
NO. Einstein's theory of relativity has NO bearing WHATSOEVER on matters of ethics or morality. It ONLY discusses what happens to matter, energy, space and time. It has as much to do with ethics as gravity does.
He goes on: "liberals like Obama (and you?) like relativity for its political ramifications. Suit yourself, but don't pretend it is based on physical observations rather than unproven assumptions"
Relativistic adjustments have to be made to GPS satellite tracking data or they'll be off by twelve miles per day.
That's a good enough physical observation for sane people.
The Theory of Relativity is not related to moral relativism at all...
Good grief, not only are you idiots at Conservapedia biased, you're all actual idiots!
putting -ist after everyone who doesn't believe in something you do and vice versa only shows what a moron you are, whose last bit of 'argument' lies in calling everything you don't understand a religion.
seriously, 'relativists, evolutionists, gravityists, frictionists, thermodynamicists'. they're one and the same thing: realists.
Andys lQ=47+j214
How can a man that dosent believe in imaginary numbers be an electrical engineer?!?
Bless him, may all of his loads be nonreactive.
Something just mooved by me at the speed of stench. Suddenly my nostrils are filled with the familiar scent of bullshit.
Moral relitivisim and relitivistic physics are not the same. Time dialation is not the same as immorality.
Relativistic effects have been proven and proven again. If he dosent like it he dosent have to believe it. This puts him into the whackaloon catagory. Fundys really miss out by denying what we have learned about the universe. The genisis acount is so dull compaired to it. Qusars black holes supernovae bacteria benthic creatures fossils evolution
Dinosaurs comets. Things that exist and things that existed do more to excite my mind, sense of beauty and awe than mythology ever could. I do believe that there is a creator this is belief, i dont have any belief about how everything ultamately came into being this is kind of like asking where the big bang came from.
The universe is amasing!
Moral relativism =/= Theory of Relativity.
Fuck, what's the point? It's Shaftfly the Impenetrably Stupid.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
