Today, the fifth or sixth largest population centre in Alberta, Fort McMurray, is abandoned, due to wild forest fires. Approximately 88,000 people abandoned the city and area. It will be weeks before it is safe for them to return. Oil production has been cut by 40% and Canada’s economic growth for Q2 has been downgraded to 0.0% from 1.1%, all due to the Fort McMurray wildfire.
