I believe in equality between a man and a woman, but i also think its ok for a man to get paid more than a woman because the man is supposed to be the bread winner (in my eyes) and the woman to care for the home. I believe in the traditional roles.

Then you don't believe in equality between the sexes, asshole.
I'll bet you're still a virgin too, living in your mother's basement.
[on edit] Damn, Morninglight got it before I did.
"I believe in equality"
"but i also think its ok ... paid more"
That's not equality, dumbass.
"I believe in the traditional roles"
"the man is supposed to be the bread winner (in my eyes) and the woman to care for the home"
Well, then maybe he should just work harder and get a better job.
Morninglight said it all.
BTW, this person's name, Picture Of Obedience, is arrogant in it's "humility." In other words it's PRIDE, a deadly sin. Hmmmmm.
On a completley different subject, would someone tell me if a Chat room will be added to this website, I read so many great comments on here and would love to explore them further but people tend to just post a comment and leave. Just something to think about.
You believe in equality as long as the woman is subservient???
I think my brain just exploded.
Holy Fuck its a woman (formerly costalmom22).
This is the kind of guy who, if he lived about 150 years ago, would also be saying that he believes in equality between whites and blacks, but it's OK to disenfranchise blacks and lynch them if they start getting uppity.
Traditional roles don't mean shit. A man should be able to be the homemaker while the woman is thhe breadwinner, or both breadwinners.
Either way, you're a loser.
@Septic Sceptic
Don't be intolerant!
shackle's, handcuffs, chains, ropes, St. Andrew's cross, gag, ...
those things can vastly improve your sexual life! or at least shut a fundie up... x-D
You're equal but get paid less.
You're loved regardless of what you are but will still be tortured unless you conform.
Freedom is overruling your own drives and submitting your choice of action to someone else's judgement.
Man, fundamentalists are a confusing bunch, and fucking creepy too.
"I believe in equality between a man and a woman, but i also think its ok for a man to get paid more than a woman"
Well I guess you've had a lot of practice at believing in contradictions, so maybe that's not surprising.
Fundie word redefinition project, operating as normal!
Equal: a reference to varying degrees of worth; as in, "Some people are more equal than others."
Well, to pay less to a person for the mere fact of being born so IS NOT INEQUALITY. Besides, If she works, SHE'S THE BREADWINNER TOO.
"Traditional?" That idea about men and women's role in the family comes to us from the very recent past, not from an established historical tradition, even in the west.
Our ancestors, P.O.O. (what a poe name) spent the entire middle ages practicing a FAMILY occupation. For many guilds, a man could not even become a full member of his profession unless he was married, and consequently, endowed with a partner for his work. There's just too much work to do without a wife's help.
If you are using "the Bible" as a source, rather than western "tradition," do recall the Bible makes no such claim about men and women's roles. To be sure, the Bible is sexist and insane about gender roles, but in terms of occupation, the ideal woman is still held up as a hard worker and a great help to her husband's work.
This is a pretty standard contemporary definition of "equality."
"Sure, I believe in equal rights for women...just as long as we maintain my version of appropriate gender roles."
"Sure, I believe in racial equality...as long as white people don't have to give up any privilege, and as long as people are still allowed to discriminate and the government doesn't gather data which might show that racism still exists."
"Sure, I believe in equal rights for gay people...as long as, y'know, they can't get married or adopt kids or teach in schools or serve in the military or get partner benefits or..."
All three are quite popular in American politics, in both of the main corporate parties.
Make up your mind, hypocrite.
What's more imporant? A fair chance in life for members of both sexes, or some stupid tradition?
Is this the opposite of "I'm not a feminist, but..."?
*laughs*
"I'm a feminist, BUT.. men and women need to stay in the strict gender role society has assigned them."
XD
@Nutz #436638 2008-Feb-16 12:56 PM so basically you're saying A=B, but also A>B.
I seem to have a dim memory of this having a solution set of {}, which means that A and B share a complete LACK of value defined (as opposed to a simple zero value). So if one accepts the fundie premise that man has not only zero but a lack of value, then this may be an accurate non-head-explodey statement.
That said, I somehow doubt that's the thought process, which means head-explodey must commence.
So, um, who's going to provide the "bread" for single moms and their kids? Oh, that's what welfare is for!
"I'm not against women, I'm for traditional gender roles!"
Isn't that the same logic to "I'm not anti-black, I'm pro-slavery".
Same shit.
So, um, who's going to provide the "bread" for single moms and their kids?
I guess it's supposed to encourage her to get married and fulfill her Biblical role properly.
What about single mothers, widows, young women, or women with sick/injured and unable to work husbands?
Equality doesn't work like that!
It shouldn't matter whether you're a man or a woman, you should get paid based on your education and experience, not on what's dangling or not dangling between your legs.
Most women are bread-winners AND care for the home.
Do you believe in traditional slavery and racism too?
"i also think its ok for a man to get paid more than a woman because the man is supposed to be the bread winner (in my eyes) and the woman to care for the home. I believe in the traditional roles."
Here is the reason why the Religious Right fear Hillary Clinton so much:
