My country and its culture grow every day with every new Canadian embraced from overseas. There was a time America believed the same thing about itself.
Children grow and children learn. It's our job to teach them, not pre-judge them and punish them relentlessly for being born in the first place. Not to beat them into shapes of our choosing. Not to break them down and hold the future just a little out of their reach so they do whatever we want to try and grasp it before it's yanked up even further and yell at them for being grabby. I pity your children and grandchildren, and I pity the nursing staff that will be stuck with you if your kids do even that much for you when you're old, alone, and bitter.
Nowadays so much of America only pays lip service to the idea of individuality - loud as it may be it is a lie in practice - and anyone who doesn't fit in is a target. People are lumped casually into threatening nebulous masses and paid little mind on any level except to repeat scare chords that rarely have any basis in reality.
