I haven't seen where anybody is targeting pedophiles. Schools, parents, and law enforcement are targeting people who try to engage in sexual activities with minors. Being despised and insulted is not the same as being targeted. As Spuki said, stick to the toons, and you'll be legal (if thoroughly avoided.) If you were actually being targeted, Republicans would be trying to round you up for orientation conversion therapy.

I hold a controversial belief that pedophiles are suffering severe mental illness, sometimes triggered by a period when they themselves were victimised as children.
As I've said before here, a person can be both mentally ill and self aware enough to control their own behaviour (sometimes with the aid of medication). In no way does mental illness absolve anyone of resposibility for criminal activities. The courts have ruled time and again that a person can be mentally ill while still knowing the difference between right and wrong.
Keep in mind that the sociopathy that leads some people, but not others, to commit murder is also a mental illness. That does not mean the killer has diminished responsibility or should ever be free.
Those pedophiles who recognise such acts as wrong and are looking for treatment as they continue to refrain from acting on their impulses - I believe there should be programs they can enter for specialized and confidential treatment.
In such cases as all people with this god-awful sickness are lumped together as subhuman and worthy of death, as some people condone, I disagree.
It is true that there exist people who struggle with pedophilic tendencies, and realize how wrong it is. Such a person, if sane, seeks immediate help and DOES NOT EVER FUCKIGN EVEN THINK ABOUT ACTING ON IT. If not sane, we get a sick little creature like you, Mr. Cousins.

If they haven't committed a crime then they have a right to be free. The law punishes actions, not feelings. A person can choose not to act on a feeling.
But for those who do commit a crime they need serious imprisonment, and not your watered down version of it. We don't microchip arsonists and let them serve out their sentences in otherwise normal surroundings but with nothing flammable for them to commit arson with.
A pedophile who acts on the urge shows that they consider their own urges more important than other people's rights.
As for castration, that's pointless if we would just give them the penalty they truly deserve, life without possibility of parole. And the only reason I don't think they should get the death penalty is because of the possibility of a wrongful conviction. It's shameful that judges sometimes impose such lenient sentences on child molesters.
