If you want an argument where you may receive respect, try someone who thinks that the "enlightenment" was a good thng. I don't. BTW, the "dark ages" were actually the Age of Faith.

Yep, and that's why we started doing research. We found "faith" to be lacking in answering the questions asked. The bible didn't tell us about how rain or wind come to be, science does. And using that knowledge we can predict the wheater to some extent and use it to our advantage.
The bible never told us about what caused the black plague. Science did, and after that it found out how to stop it.
The bible didn't tell us about building houses, science (in the broadest sense) did. And after we started making our own shelters we had the advantage of not freezing to death in blizzards or dying of illness due to rain.
So there probably is some kind of use for the "enlightenment" since your precious "Ultimate Truth" wasn't useful in those areas.
Well, he's partly right. The dark ages were the age of faith. They were still the dark ages. They are not mutually exclusive, and some would argue they are necessarily mutually inclusive. Either way, faith does not have any sort of strong correlation to improving society.
But yeah, if Black's willing to give up all his reason created luxuries for the dark ages, let him.
Addendum: The rest of his post is equally insane, possibly moreso.
Ah, the good old days of ignorance, superstition, and theocratic control.
But enough about the 2004 election....

Yup Faith = Ignorance.
Congratulations, BlackElk, with that realization, you have taken your first step towards truth.
"the "dark ages" were actually the Age of Faith."
And the light ages were the age of reason. Do you see where this is going?

Actually the dark ages were caused by christianity destroying knowledge in its war with paganism. The big spread of christianity outside europe happened
at the end of the dark ages, as reason powered europe became more powerful, and christianity hitched a ride.
BTW, the "dark ages" were actually the Age of Faith.
To-may-to, to-mah-to.
Yes, they were. I mean, the "Faith" was more or less inspired by fear and ignorance, but yeah, sure, Faith.
I don't think that really strengthens your point, though. Not that you care; the Spanish Inquisition didn't have much use for polite debate rules.
Oh, shit. So now thought and reason are bad things?
Oh, wait. I already knew they thought that.
Yes, onto the dark ages, where we were all ground under the collective foot of a big-ass king.
Let's see, disease, war, crusades, real religious oppression, a life expectancy of about 32 yrs, serfs, feudal lords, 98% illiteracy, poverty, etc. And you think this is better than the age of enlightenment and the age of reason & industrial revolution that followed? Man you are one twisted, sick, evil puppy.
If I hit him in the head, with a hammer, really hard, do you think he'll get smarter?
I propose that yes, he will. Consider; you cannot get stupider than that. Ergo, any brain "damage" can only be an improvement.

The spin doctors at work.
This is part of the xtian crusade to rewrite history. Another of their jewels is that this country was founded by xtians with xtain laws. See, if they give that dark era a nice and bright name it won't seem so bad this time around because, yes, they are bent on bringing back the good 'ol days. Following the nifty new naming will be to give the big xtain okie-dokie to treating non-xtians like they did back in the warm and fuzzy Age of Faith.
NESI (Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition!) Award ...
What, the Renaissance never happened? We skipped the Mediaeval period and went straight from A.D. 1200 to A.D. 1630? The Enlightenment did NOT follow the Dark Ages (500-1200-ish, depending on where you were).
Wikipedia has the Dark Ages as "Early Mediaeval", but otherwise it's as I said.
Re Inmate 22841666:
The most successful, advanced, and largest culture during the Dark Ages was Islam.
Absolutely correct. If the crusades hadn't nicked their technology, this may still be the case.
The Dark Ages were 'Dark' because Christianity was being defeated and pushed back by pagans and muslims.
The Dark Ages were Dark because of the fall of the Roman Empire because the Christians burnt all their books and killed all their scientists.
Faith lost a lot of ground during the Black Plague, when it proved completely impotent in the face of a terrible epidemic. After that, people started turning to logic and reason, science and technology to help themselves, and have never looked back. It didn't happen overnight, but eventually the Enlightenment did come.
Nobody but delusional fundies wants a return to the Dark Ages. The rest of us know better.
Julian , actualy it was he mongols, not the crusaders, that destroyed islamic civilization,
The crusaders were a minor irritant that barely made an impression, being that they were still too ignorant to figure out how to cross a patch of desert,,, (or go around it)
this Black Elk twit has taken a name from MY people. The REAL and historical Black Elk was a pagan teacher who prayed to an earth mother goddess.
ah Julian , my appologies, I completely missunderstood you, I now look like a total ass.
Damm i hate when that happens.

I don't.
You think the enlightenment was a bad thing? Dude, you're posting on the Internet, which would never have been invented without the enlightenment! You wouldn't even be alive right now if it weren't for the enlightenment!
BTW, the "dark ages" were actually the Age of Faith.
