[Are Christians being persecuted?]
Yes. There is a real effort to remove Christian traditions in the name of separation of church and state. The 1st amendment is being falsely interpreted.
Drug use, abortion, embyonic stem-cell research, pornography, fornication, R-rated movies, unconventional family units, unconventional adoption practices, and homosexuality lead the causes behind much of this persecution.

Of course fundies being angry, biggoted assholes that try to ram their mythology down everyone else's throat has nothing to do with Christian persecution......
Then again how 90% of the population can claim to be persecuted is beyond me, maybe their math is different then ours because their book of myths tells them pi=3.
In which way was the first ammendment misinterpreted?, since when is Thomas Paine Christian?,moreover, since when wasn´t Rhode Island formed the way it is?. You forget too that in the times where, to your knowledge, Christian were not persecuted, Racism, lynching, poverty, death, prostitution, social inequality or war were far more frequent than nowadays, what´s your point?
'unconventional adoption practices'
So, you'd rather innocent children grow up unloved and insecure in a hostile world than let them have gay parents or some such, just to make yourself feel better? Why haven't you been shot yet?
Is anyone forcing you to use drugs, get an abortion, donate embryos for research, buy or watch porn, have sex, watch R-rated movies, be part of a "unconventional" family (Less that a few hundred years ago the nuclear family model would have been considered unconventional), unconventional adoption practices (not sure what you mean here but I'm sure you're just being a fucking bigot and saying homosexuals can't raise children despite evidence to the contrary), or be gay.
Since no one is forcing you to do or be any of these things you are not being persecuted. So shut the fuck up.
The 1st Amendment is being falsely interpreted, all right: by fundies.
You know, people like Free_thinker (ironic name) who want to add the footnote, "By freedom of religion, we mean freedom to be a fundamentalist non-Catholic, non-Mormon Christian."
Oh shit! Not R-rated movies, how could they? Some of us aren't content with watching Disney. When I watch a film, I want there to be some combination of zombies/monsters/killer robots/deadly aliens/vampires/guns/explosions/chainsaws et cetera.
Damn it, I want to go and watch The Thing.
(puts on special fundy reading glasses)
"Congress shall make laws respecting the establishment of our religion, and prohibiting the free exercise of any religion except ours, or of nonreligion...."
Wow, you're right. The First Amendment has been falsely interpreted.
You're only freaking allowed to vote in the poll if you are "Jesus believing Christian". Nice way to bias the results.
As opposed to a non - Jesus - believing Christian?
Wow, I'm being oppressed and didn't even know it! Nevermind that I can practise any religion I like and worship how I want.
Of course, I'm British, and considering converting to Catholicism, so I'm probably according to this guy a) an evil commie American hating foreigner, and b) not a True Christian.
Nevermind.
The people doing all those evil things? If 85% of the population believes in a supreme being, and most of that 85% identifies themselves as Christian, I have to guess that the vast majority of the sinners behind the persecution of Christians are Christian.
How exactly are you being persecuted? No, really, I've been hearing a lot about this Christian persecution, but nobody seems able to give details. Beyond "I can't force my religion down everyone else's throat", that is.
I see fundie Americans going after homosexuals, Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, Jews, etc, and then when those groups ask the fundies to stop... the fundies cry "PERSECUTION!!!!!! OH NOES!!!" The fundies need to look at countries were people are actually being persecuted and go there and help. Or shut up. Otherwise they are being hypocrits.
Ok, I'm going to explain this one more time.
Getting tied to a fence and beaten to death = persecution
Not getting your way all the time =/= persecution
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
