[When asked why not read a book on paganism and the history it had thousands of years before the christian religion was started]
I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions, no problems and a history of being right, the Bible. I also have the backing of scientists such as Michel Behe, William Lane Craig, Dr. Walter Martin, Ravi Zacharias, Norman L. Geisler and thousands more. Who do you have? Allister Crowley? Idols? I have the Almighty God, the armies of Heaven, and the Holy Armour of God. I also have the Truth on my side.

I'd rather use a fictional book with contradictions out the wazoo, many problems and a history of being wrong, the Bible. I also have the backing of frauds such as Michel Behe, William Lane Craig, Dr. Walter Martin, Ravi Zacharias, Norman L. Geisler and thousands more. Who do you have? Allister Crowley? Idols? I have the Almighty God, the armies of Heaven, and the Holy Armour of Ignorance. I also have idiocy on my side.
Fixed.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, and wrong! How much arrogant stupidity can you fit in one post?
"I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions, no problems and a history of being right, the Bible."
God tells the Jews not to kill and then orders them to eradicate just about all the non-Jews in what would become Israel. And the prophecies are so vague that who knows what they mean?
"I also have the backing of scientists such as Michel Behe, William Lane Craig, Dr. Walter Martin, Ravi Zacharias, Norman L. Geisler and thousands more."
ID proponents don't get science. And who are these "thousands more"?
"Who do you have? Allister Crowley? Idols? I have the Almighty God, the armies of Heaven, and the Holy Armour of God. I also have the Truth on my side."
Well, Richard Dawkins, for one, and he beats your imaginary God, armies and Armour hands down. And don't get me started on truth.
*blink*
*blink*
My brain hurts.
The Bible has tons of contradictions. People who claim the Bible is never wrong just invent non-biblical "additions" out of thin air to explain the contradictions away.
BTW, Michael Behe supports Intelligent Design, but he doesn't support the Bible's 6,000 year old earth - he accepts that the earth is billions of years old. Craig is a theologian, and there's no indication he takes every word of the Bible literally either.
Who do you have? Allister Crowley? Idols? I have the Almighty God, the armies of Heaven, and the Holy Armour of God. I also have the Truth on my side.
I also prefer history books without contrdictions and with a history of being 100% right.
That´s why I definitely wouldn´t choose the bible (unless for stories where independent research has shown that they are true)
And don´t have any armies of heaven by my side, or any holy armour. But I have reality on my side, that must suffice ;)
Well, I'd rather use books written by verifiable, identifiable people who leave clear, precise information for those that follow. I'd rather use books that are based on research than one based on myth.
So, you use your book, I'll use mine.
Keep your god. I'll keep reality. Thanks.
If this was translated into a real life incident it would go something like;
OP: Hey, come down to the museum, they've opened a display on pagan history.
SS: No! Don' wanna! All the pagan history I need is in the Bible! *blindfolds self, chains Bible to wrist, cling to doorframe*
In other words, you have a book of old Semitic legends, a bunch of religious con-men, and your imagination on your side.
Your bible is not a history book. It is a compilation of Judeo-Christian mythology.
Get a clue, for fuck's sake.
"I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions, no problems and a history of being right..."
Me too!
"... the Bible"
Oh. So close, but yet so fail.
"I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions....."
As I blacked out I thought to myself, if it weren't for my horse, I'd wouldn't have spent that year in college......
scientists such as
Michel Behe, ---Ok, he's got a phd, but his "science licence should be revoked
William Lane Craig, --- philosophy of religion and theology, not a scientist
Dr. Walter Martin, --- Religious Education, not a scientist, also, not a doctor
Ravi Zacharias, --- Theologian, not scientist
Norman L. Geisler --- Bachelor Philosophy, not scientist.
Well, now that truth isn't on your side anymore, all that's left is your imaginary sky-man. Good luck with that.
I have the Almighty God, the armies of Heaven, and the Holy Armour of God. I also have the Truth on my side.
Contradictions:
John 15:15
For all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
John 16:12
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
Problems:
Human sacrifice; misogyny; child abuse; bad science; flat earth; etc., etc.
A history of being right:
Do I really need to list all the inacuracies in the Bible? I'll just mention the total lack of armored soldiers, chariots, and horse skeletons in the Red Sea.
I have the Almighty God, the armies of Heaven, and the Holy Armour of God.
I have an open mind, a genius level (146) IQ, a skeptical attitude, and a low tolerance for bulls***.
You lose.
I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions, no problems and a history of being right
Riiiight, and that describes the bible to a T. Oh wait...
I have Odin, and Thor, and Frey, and Heimdall, and Frigga, and Freya...
My deities outnumber yours.
Not to mention, Thor's got a big hammer, while your god got nailed to a tree. Furthermore, your Jesus didn't even hang on that cross for a whole day after those Romans nailed him up. Odin stuck himself to Yggdrasil and spent nine nights before he decided to get down.
"I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions..."
How can one possibly read the Bible and truly believe there are no contradictions? It's like looking at a zebra and calling it a giraffe.
"I have the Almighty God, the armies of Heaven, and the Holy Armour of God."
To someone who doesn't believe in your religion, this is a completely worthless threat. What's the point?
Except for that whole adam and eve bit and indeed most of the Old Testament. As for a Pagan religion whose history matches up, Hinduism does rank up there particularly if you take its myths to be allegory.
Oh your list of "scientists" are all muppets. Thousands more? We have the Steve project to fight your "science list".
Idols? Your almighty "God" is weak when compared to such deities such as the Allfather, Kali and Vishnu. None of those guys were beaten by iron...
We put up Shiva who can dance us to death and is represented as a giant penis to fight your God...
I sometimes lose the will to live.
This morons would believe the babble over truth even if it cost them their children. The only good thing is it reduces the crowding a bit at the shallow end of the gene pool; however they usually don't believe it enough to risk themselves
Mr. Crowley wasn't pagan. He was a satanist....I think. But he wasn't a traditional Welsh/English pagan. Why? He was evil.
@Razark:
Let's not even GO THERE with Fenrir, and the fiddly crap with the unbreakable ribbon.
Yes, there measly god got nailed to a tree, along with about 200 others, and the cast of Monty Python.
@Kitourahime:
Crowley wasn't a Satanist. That's a big misconception. He was a showman, half-assed philosopher, and megalomaniac, but not a Satanist. He may have been an atheist who liked to get peoples' goats. Or he may have just been a heroin junkie.
And this is coming from someone who likes the guy, as the parts of his work that aren't outright lies or complicated inside jokes with himself are pretty insightful.
Hit thelema101.com for the inside view...possibly also with outright lies and complicated inside jokes.

@SS:
Life. You have failed at it. Please return your oxygen to the nearest deposit box.
"I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions, no problems and a history of being right, "
Then you'll have to toss your bible and get another book.
I've got a brain, knowlegde. You, you have Delusion, hallucination and a fly's IQ (May the flies forgive me !).
"I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions, no problems and a history of being right, the Bible ."
The stupid...help me - NO!!!!
:: head explodes ::
"Holy Armour of God"
Is that a meat company?
"I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions, no problems and a history of being right, the Bible."
That's a rather amusing joke you have there.
"I also have the backing of scientists such as Michel Behe, William Lane Craig, Dr. Walter Martin, Ravi Zacharias, Norman L. Geisler and thousands more."
How nice for you. Do they actually have any evidence to support you or do you feel them agreeing with you is enough?
"Who do you have? Allister Crowley? Idols? I have the Almighty God, the armies of Heaven, and the Holy Armour of God. I also have the Truth on my side."
You seem rather delusional.
So three of the things that you have on your side are entirely imaginary. The fourth has long since tired of trying to pull your head out of the sand and has buggered off.
I'd rather have Allister Crowley and the idols, thanks.
So does Spectersparten run around pulling two legs off of every bug he sees so that he can keep up the delusion that they only have four legs?
Oh, and we have temples, writings, archeology, etc on our side. You've got a god that was held back by iron chariots.
The people over here who read science books and consider and reason also have Watson and Crick (whose research helped add credibility to the "primordial soup" theory), Einstein, and other such scientists to back us up.
Research and reason trump blind belief and nonevidence.
(Also, WTF at "history of being right." It kind of doesn't have a history of being right, actually.)
Notice the "Truth" with a capital "T", so not the actual truth, just a synonym for the bible.
Interesting about the "holy armor". I cant see how it can be effective if its full of holes... Then again, I guess holey would be a good description for creationist arguments.
There is no book more full of contradictions, fabrications, distortions, misinterpretations and mistranslations than the Bible.
All of the 6718 "one true" gods catalogued to date, exist only because man (rather thier rulers) created them to both to keep them in order and to explain the (what at the time was) unexplainable.
This is why science is regarded as "the enemy" by the fundies.
"I'd rather use a historic book with no contradictions, no problems and a history of being right, the Bible."
The principles of Ingsoc would sit well with this one. I wonder if "doublethink" can really happen in some individuals.
The Bible has more contradictions in just the Pentateuch than any other book in history, as it's compiled of several older fairy tales.
Yeah, that "scientist" Behe made such and impression during the Kitzmiller vs Dover case. (If "impression" means "a complete ass of himself".)
Basically, I don't care what you have, I care about what's in all the Museums of Natural History around the world (except that hack one's, who's in jail for fraud, whatshisname).
@ Razark
Aesirs forever!!!
Well, the Bible is a historic book. It's a piece of literature that tells us about what a group of people thought and believed hundreds of years ago. And it contains a few bits of historically accurate information. Mind you, I could say the same thing for the Iliad and the Odyssey . However, it does have contradictions. It also has a history getting certain things wrong. Also, as for the list of "scientists" that supposedly back you:
Michael Behe -- Biochemist. Intelligent Design advocate. Expert witness in Kitzmiller v. Dover . He accepts evolution to a certain extent, just not in a few certain areas. He's not a YEC. He's not a Biblical literalist and his Intelligent Design arguments have been shredded . . . largely by other Christians.
William Lane Craig -- Theologian and philosopher. This man is not a scientist by any definition. If he was, he would actually listen when physicists pointed out that his precious Kalaam Cosmological Argument was built upon faulty premises and either modify the darned thing or stop using it.
Walter Martin -- An evangelical minister with a doctorate in philosophy. Martin was not a scientist.
Ravi Zacharias -- He has a doctorate in divinity. He's an evangelical apologist, not a scientist.
Norman L. Geisler -- Another person with a doctorate in philosophy. Again, not a scientist.
Look, why don't you learn what a scientist is? There are plenty of brilliant scientists who happen to be Christian. They just don't believe the Bible is a literal document with no contradiction and an accurate reflection of history.
OK, you're both wrong. But those claims of thousands of scientists, I would like to direct you to just the list of scientists named Steven, or some variant, who support evolution.
There are more than 1000.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
