The founding fathers recognized that an ethic born of “Religion and morality” (as Washington put it) ruling the hearts of the majority of Americans was the only “glue” that could keep a democratic REPUBLIC together. Hence the rule in NC stating that only believers in God could ever take office in that state.

The only real difference in the Revolutions of America and France is that France tried to side step questions of spiritual consensus, argueing instead for secular consensus of “liberty and fraternity” while America had an underlying Judeo Christian consensus underlying its founding priciples and ultimately its Constitution.

Apart from God, this nation is nothing and her government can not govern with-out resorting to naked raw force and soul darkening psycho-linguistic manipulations of the body politic.

So yes I believe atheists should not govern a free people other than to rule those folk given over to reprobation! Let the blind lead the blind but let the righteous govern; to the joy of all people. Do you think God cares one whit regarding democracy? He cares more about having a people with the image of his son burning and shining out amidst spiritual darkness through their hearts amd lives. God is King and he has promised to write ‘his constitution” in our inward parts!

“Locusts have no king, yet they march out in bands, 50’s and hundreds, laying waste” Proverbs. (they actually have a king...preborn instinct that causes them to act and consume in sync.....how much more would God do for his own people thru his Spirt? Can you hear Ezekiel now....”Rise up old bones and take on flesh, then breathe in the animating breath of LIFE from Almighty God?”)

Pray for an America that would have no dictator, or civil king but rather God ruling out of the collective heart of her peoples!
