["I find it disturbing that any Christian would applaud a law that is based on discrimination."]
If it were a law against black marriage, or asian marriage, or hispanic marriage it would be discrimination. Since when is being gay a race?

No one claimed that "being gay is a race"! Race is not the only basis for discrimination. There has been discrimination on the basis of gender, age, religious belief, national origin, and other qualities visible or invisible. All of these are unfair; that is why we have laws against them. Gays are entitled to the same kind of protection against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

DISCRIMINATION ACT 1991 - SECT 7
Grounds
(1) This Act applies to discrimination on the ground of any of the following attributes:
(a) sex;
(b) sexuality;
(c) transsexuality;
(d) relationship status;
(e) status as a parent or carer;
(f) pregnancy;
(g) breastfeeding;
(h) race;
(i) religious or political conviction;
(j) disability;
(k) membership or nonmembership of an association or organisation of employers or employees;
(l) age;
(m) profession, trade, occupation or calling;
(n) association (whether as a relative or otherwise) with a person identified by reference to an attribute referred to in another paragraph of this subsection;
(o) spent conviction within the meaning of the Spent Convictions Act 2000 .
(2) In this Act, a reference to an attribute mentioned in subsection (1) includes
(a) a characteristic that people with that attribute generally have; and
(b) a characteristic that people with that attribute are generally presumed to have; and
(c) such an attribute that a person is presumed to have; and
(d) such an attribute that the person had in the past but no longer has.
Discrimination is singling out a group, based on ideology, color, creed or preference. Homosexuality fits there quite comfortably.
Since when is "Asian" a race? Iraq is in Asia, so is Sri Lanka, most of Russia, Japan, China, Indonesia and 20 or so other countries. They all have different characteristics.
In the US, both blacks, Asians, Hispanics and gays are minorities . That's why it's discrimination to restrict the marriage of any of them.
And, before you bleat about it; age IS a valid factor, as marriage is a legal contract, and minors aren't allowed to enter into legal contracts.
"Since when is being gay a race?"
Since when does Christianity have the monopoly on marriage , least of all legal recognition via the government ? Three words: Shinto weddings, Japan.
Confused?
