I read online where they said Cho was autistic since he was a child.
I wonder if the austisim was demonic and then it finally led him to murder.
Thanks,
TT

From a fundie perspective where the bible is the top instance to explain the world, this makes sense (kind of, I guess). For anyone else who is based in reality, this explanation is fucked up.
I'm sorry texastig, I just can't imagine living in your paranoid little world full of spooks, ghosts, and goblins. That you can chock up the mental state of a young man that may have had autism, and most probably was schizophrenic, with your make-believe world makes you delusional. Either delusional or your an inhuman monster.
Sandman:
He could have had mild "functioning autism." It's entirely possible, but my money is still on schizophrenia and/or hypomanic depression.
Regardless of what issues he had, explaining it away as demons is as ridiculous as blaming it on the Easter Bunny.
Will you people please stop trying to pass blame on to something else. Face it, Cho was a quiet person who didn't fit in well, he was branded a loner which negatively reinforced his lack of self-esteem, he reached a point of critical mass and then he killed 33 people. No demons, just cause and effect in human relationships.
Fuck off. That's just disgusting of you to say that. Yes, he was probably insane on some level. No, he does hot have demons, and no, autism doesn't make people violent.
szenah, I second your sentiments.
I have a child with high-functioning autism and this is what I have to say:
Fuck you, texastig and your notion that he was suffering a disorder resulting from Satan. If you had done any reading at all, he was on anti-depressants and relentlessly tormented for his inability to speak clearly.
Autism is a very terrible mental illness, that virtually isolates children from their surroundings. Maybe in the past it was considered demonic, but of course, it came from the same people who thought that the Earth was flat.
Anyone believing in the existence of demons is a retard.
That they mention them in the Bible is no excuse. The Bible mentions a whole bunch of stuff we know to be false, like unicorns and dragons.
Having said that, in the Bible, demons act with the full knowledge and permission of the All-Mighty.
So you might as well carry your argument to it's full, albeit immensely retarded, conclusion and blame the Virginia Tech mass murders on God.
'Nuff said.
Matilde: I have taught some high-functioning autistic boys who might give you a bit of an argument about the "terrible mental illness" part. The autism spectrum is huge. It runs from people who never learn how to talk all the way to intelligent, extremely functional people who just seem a little awkward in conversation. Look up "Temple Grandin" sometime and you'll see what I mean.
Oh, and as someone who has studied autism and taught autistic teenagers, let me join the choir in a massive internets-shaking shout of "FUCK YOU!" at texastig.
Irene
autism doesn't make people violent Well, i got punched really hard by an autistic teenager (low functioning)...but the poor kid was terrified, emergencies rooms can be quite scary for them. Anyway, it's true that, usually, they're not the kind of people who hurt others on purpose.
I read in Wikipedia that Cho's parents thought he was an autistic child, because he was so quiet and "cold"... but, in the tapes he sent to NBC, his behavior isn't compatible with autism.
About the demonic posession thing...in the name of my dear Asperger friend:
FUCK YOU!
@ Irene Thank you.
@ Matilde, while autism may not be the easiest thing in the world to deal with it is a far cry from being something completely devastating and terrible. I think you should also remember that some autistic adults and parents of autistic children, define their culture and themselves based on their autistic traits. (Like the way many Deaf people define their culture by their deafness) So saying autism is a terrible, horrible thing is sometimes seen as calling an autistic person a horrible or terrible thing as well.
I'm autistic. Have been my whole life. Guess that means I'm also demonically possessed and driven to murder. I think I'll start with texastig.
In addition, I disagree with the previous poster calling a major part of my identity something terrible. When you have been autistic, not just witnessed the propagandist asshattery of organizations like Autism Speaks, then you may judge. Not a moment before. I am not a second-class person.
Third, pointing out Cho's use of antidepressants without context does a disservice to individuals with mental illnesses. The stereotype is that crazy people are dangerous, unpredictable, and violent, and free-floating statements will be taken by certain people as proof of their convictions. The fact is that mentally ill persons are far *more* likely to be victims of violent crime, and far *more* likely to have their testimony discounted by police and courts, than the non-MI population. I have first- and reliable second-hand stories to illustrate.
Fourth, as another previous poster noted, autism encompasses a wide spectrum of behaviors. So do many other mental illnesses, including depression and bipolar. I think most people here recognize this, and likely treat despressives or bipolars with appropriate human respect, but some people don't understand this yet. It needs to be repeated often.
schoolmarm: I’m sorry if I upset youbut I do not believe I call you or any other autistic person a second class citizen. My own son is autistic, why would I think of him as being a second class citizen? I am upset with people who see autism as some sort of absolutely life ending disease with no hope in site. I’m not saying that it’s a great thing, or that it’s a bad thing, just that autism is part of who my son is and when I hear people say things like “autism is a terrible disease” it is in a way like calling my son a terrible thing.
Yes, because all mental illnesses are Satans work... The same Satan who is, supposedly, chained to a rock somewhere in the Earths mantle... Yea, it all adds up, especially when you ignore the pressures from all fronts that young people have to endure...
Mind if I insert a 'Fuck you!' as well? Ta very much.
As someone who has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and Bipolar Type II, let me just say a few words here.
Texastig, you are a total idiot. Autism and mental illnesses are not caused by "demons" (demons don't exist), they are caused by imbalances in brain chemistry, stress, genetics, and a whole host of other completely natural phenomena.
Secondly, I think defining one's identity around one's psychological problems is pretty silly, so I think all this "autistic culture" stuff is just a means of attempting to normalize a disorder which is quite disabling for most of its sufferers (myself included). That is not to say that we are second-class citizens. All I am saying is that we need to call a spade a spade.
I read online, and you believe it immediately. To be autistic, he was rather communicative and eloquent. There are levels of authism, and maybe he suffered it in the past(I guessed the doctor wouldn´t tell us for professional decorum), but I think that it was not the problem he had and not the cause that triggered the tragedy. By the way, one of my old schoolmates has an autistic child too, who doesn´t speak. Maybe that´s why I think it´s something so sad and take that as paradigm.
Straight from the mouth man with a little brother with autism (and whose parents were told by thier priest that his autism was because of the sins of my father)
Just Fuck You texastig, Fuck You and die.
As for Cho; maybe you and your moralizing ilk should have listened to him. Of all the reasons he snapped and all the supposed "cures" for school shooting, I bet NO ONE shut up and let him speak.
Confused?
