Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck says that GOP hopeful Mitt Romney’s poll numbers have fallen as a part of a plan from God to make it obvious to the American people that divine intervention was responsible when Republicans take the White House in November.
“I know Mitt Romney wasn’t your first choice, nor was he mine,” Beck recently told controversial “historian” David Barton in a video clip highlighted by Right Wing Watch on Monday. “I am to the point that — A — God is trying to make this so clear to us that if it happens, it’s his finger. Because nothing looks good.”

I'll agree with one thing. With the economy improving, unemployment falling, and Romney still behind in the polls Romney WOULD need a miracle to win. Unfortunately for Romney gods are in very short supply; as in zero.
In any other country, Glenn would be wandering around the streets mumbling to himself, or perhaps shouting disconnected phrases on a bus. In America, you give him his own show. It's very public-spirited of you, America.
So the whole "free will" thing was just a typo in Genesis? It's not an act of God that brings a president into office in the US. It's dictated by the choice of the people. What's the point of a democracy if the end result is just decided by some outside party?
Actually, that goes for everybody who attributes the poll numbers to divine intervention. Do they even understand how the electoral process works? That it's actual human beings each making their own decisions and not God saying, "Okay, you guys vote for the dude with the eyebrows and the rest of you can vote for whoever"?
It's the type of cognitive dissonance that really pisses me off.
That sounds like the fundie God, alright. He never does anything simple and straightforward, like appearing on the Six O'Clock News and saying "I prefer Romney". No, He always has to come up with some vague, bizarre, roundabout Rube Goldberg scheme for doing things. Did He just smite the Amorites? No. He stopped the sun. Did He just kill off the sinful humans? No. He had Noah build a boat (He didn't even build the damn boat!) and gather a bunch of animals. Then it didn't even do any good, because the people were just as sinful afterwards - righteousness isn't inherited like eye color.
These people make God sound like a moron.
Republican wins = it's God's will
Democrat wins = he's the Antichrist
It's good that your mythology allows 360° rationalizations, no matter what happens.
Uh, Glenny-boy, Mr. Lonesome Rhodes, sir...maybe the Supreme Being is behind Obama, ever thought of that?!
Ok, my religious life was only like 7 years long and I was a child, but there is this concept that God doesn't mess with the free will of people (although he'll punish them for all eternity if he doesn't like their choices), but the idea that God was manipulating the polls would either mean that God changed the will of people, which means he only likes free will if it is convenient for him (like you, Glenn) or he changed the numbers which would make God a liar.
So, if you have another rational that'll be great, until then and for me you just said the God you believe in lies to people.
America is in thrall to these radio and TV religion hawkers. Why don't so many Americans read and think for themselves?
As to Romney, as a Mormon he believes that he is/will become a god.... Whatever happened to "thou shalt not have strange gods before Me"?
Is Beck Mormon too?
Effectively Mormons are polytheists. No?
God is trying to make this so clear to us
God is trying ?
What a strange God you have. Perhaps you should assist him in some way, he seems to need your help.
Gee, nowadays omnipotence isn't what it used to be.
@Hastur: I accept the admonishment. I didn't mean to impute anything against Americans, whom I like and admire very much.
I do think it's astonishing that people like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, etc, are taken seriously though.
Sometimes I wonder why Glenn Beck does (did) have a show. There's a good long spectrum in between believing that a god exists, and believing that God is interfering with our petty election affairs, implementing his own complex strategy to ensure his guy wins.
So you are saying the only way America can get a republican president in the 2012 election is if there's a divine intervention? Good going, Glenn! The situation has become so obvious that even you can see it!
Gerald "Voices From Spirit" Polley also stood for president earlier on. I bet you'd have preferred him as president!
Of course, if you simply ask why God doesn't publicly endorse Romney you'd be told that "He moves in mysterious ways." That's the standard answer for everything that makes no fucking sense, and it's needed frequently.
Two liars supporting another liar all in the hopes of a church-state goverment, all to no good end.
Ann Coulter recently exclaimed " I didn't know the retarded vote was so important". Bullshit Anne, You, Beck, Barton and Romney know that's the Republican base that you all influence.
@ checkmate:
Bible God has been losing ground steadily. The creator of the universe and drowner of planets was winding down when he merely trashed a couple of cities, and by the time Moses came around, he was playing with frogs and bugs. He needed the help of an army to finish off Jericho. Now, he's reduced to scaring the senile and infirm into going to the voting booth by depressing a few statistics.
From the front page of the Financial Times , a week or so ago (I draw your attention to the last two paragraphs of the article; especially the latter):

Facts don't lie, Glenn(da). Unlike your nonexistent 'God', however.

Cry more, inbred, right-wing fundie teabagger, inferior subhuman redneck trailer-trash, pastor knob-gobbling slime. Your tears of impotent despair are sweet to we infinitely superior left -wing Atheists.
Feels good to be on the eternally winning side. Welcome to our world, bitches. >:D [/hyper-smug & ultra-superior]
@Xotan
You do realize there's this thing called the first amendment right? In the United States constitution. It means these crazies can talk all they want. A lot of the reason they keep talking is because people find them hilarious... not 'thralls.'
Vapid generalizations are exactly what fundies like to play with.
On the contrary, it looks very good for Romney.
GOP legislators and operatives in multiple states have been working for four years to create laws that disenfranchise Democrats, cage voters, redistrict to their advantage, reduce voting hours in Democratic districts, and hire challengers whose sole purpose is to sit at the polls and try to prevent Democrats from voting. And let's not forget good old Diebold, whose machines are still in the game. Taking all that into account, the miracle will be if OBAMA is reelected.
It's going to be 2000/2004 all over again.
Confused?
