You cannot compare the deaths of children in Lebanon to frozen embryos. Although the killing in Israel is terrible, America cannot do anything about it without making the entire region erupt in war, thus killing thousands or even millions more. Bush did however have the relatively easy power of stopping the destruction of human embryos. In my view, saving some, no matter what state, is better than saving no life.

In my view, saving some, no matter what state, is better than saving no life. Which is a damn good reason why we should press forward with embryonic stem cell research.
You know what? You're an idiot.
Something can be done to reduce the casualties over in Lebanon. Not stop it, no, but reduce it.
Oh, those embryos could have saved a life.
I vote for a law against getting haircuts, clipping you nails and eating. Just think about all those poor living cells that get killed.
(Yes I know, hair and nails aren't realy alive, but it is the thought that counts)
So basically, in your point of view, peace through mutual respect and undertanding sucks and is a pointless goal; and medicinal advances are inherently and intrinsically evil...
A few more typos, stutters, incorrectly formed sentences, a lie about God or two and a lazy billion dollars and you could be the next president, how does that sit with ya son?
What about all those people who could have been saved by medical advances made from research...? Escpecially since Bush did not prevent the destruction of all those embryos from fertility clinics. All Bushie has done is prevent them from being used in research. They will still be tossed in the incinerator when the donors have concieved! Don't these idiots understand that? Preventing stem cell research does not save one single goddamn "potential" life! But the research might have prevented my grandmother from dying in terrified paranoid confusion from years of Alzheimer's.
You really want to "save" a child? Then adopt one of the countless orphans spawned by all the assinine wars around the world. There's a hell of a lot of them out there who could actually use some goddamn saving. We should worry more about the human beings who are already in the goddamn world, not the ones that exist in some potential state in a goddamn fertility clinic and will never be brought to term anyway. (Or do you only accept white children..? Those "brown" ones make you nervous...?)
(My uncle works with a fertility clinic in Tampa, and by the end of the month, they have thousands of potentialy viable fertilized eggs that will not be used. And that's just from a single clinic. You really think we can find that many surrogate mothers to carry them to term? And do you really think that increasing the US birth rate that much would be a good idea...?)
P.S. Sorry for the swearing. This attitude just pisses me the hell off. At the end of her life my grandmother thought she was back in Treblinka. She thought we were guards who were going to take her to the gas chamber.
Thank you all, especially Incubusion, Libkitten, and Sandman. I'm sure this poor fundibot would just refuse to believe the information, coming as it does from someone other than his/her minister or the Republican Party -- but the more it's said, the more likely it is that some people's ignorance might be cured.

Wow, Sandman! Great post! I know exactly where you're coming from, though my situation is no where near as bad as an old lady with alzheimer's having flashbacks of a concentration camp.
I have multiple sclerosis, one of the conditions that may be treatable by stem-cell therapy. So whenever I hear opposition to research in this area, it makes me so mad I could kill (well, maybe I could if I could walk). It makes me think that people like your grandmother and me are less valued than a clump of cells that is destined to be incinerated. Christian Love, indeed.
I say, fuck the fundies! And all the politicians who rode in on them!
Yeah, GWB meddled in people's private business, "saving" tiny wads of cells that are going to be dumped later anyway, rather than expend any time, effort or brain-power (well, he'd have to borrow that) to in any way alleviate the troubles in the middle east. Why to go, Georgy!
Sandman, your swearing is completely understandable.
What is intolerable, however, is the ignorance of the Religious Right. No wonder they oppose funding education - they'd get voted out in a heartbeat.
So, do female fundies go into mourning once a month when their bodies reject an unfertilised egg? Because, surely, that's half a baby going to waste right there?? Bah. These people make me sick.
An acorn is not an oak tree. A grain of pollen is not a lily. An embryo is no more a baby than the hairs in my hairbrush are me! And yet, you'd all be perfectly happy to allow actual human beings to die horrible, undignified deaths rather than seeing a few irrelevant clusters of cells researched. Your priorities are so skewed it's ridiculous.
Your Grandma's story is so sad, Sandman. My heart goes out to you and your family.
"Although the killing in Israel is terrible"
understatement of the century? And what about the killing in Lebanon? And Iraq? And a dozen other places around the world.
Look up "compassion", you turd, and try not to miss the boat.
I want to see a public service announcement mocking this.
"Every year, over 100,000 embryos are killed for the betterment of mankind. Save a tumor, kill a scientist."
First sentence, correct!
Second sentence, you lost me, dickweed.
Third sentence, still lost.
Last sentence, shows me how truly fucktarded you are.
Please, ask your doctor to give you a vasectomy, so you will not pollute the gene pool.
So, do female fundies go into mourning once a month when their bodies reject an unfertilised egg? Because, surely, that's half a baby going to waste right there??
And, worse, what about all those fertilized eggs that fail to implant on the uterine wall and are flushed out with the next menses? From what I've heard, it's only a minority of conceptions that successfully implant. That's a whole baby going to waste each and every time an implantation is missed!
I say we take all those baby-murdering women with uncooperative uteruses and string them up!
America can do a fuck of a lot more to prevent war, if it wanted to, starting with the ban on the production of any and all weapons of war, and the associated sale to warring countries.
But that would create unemployment...
The entire region does not have to erupt in war. If America would turn off the welfare to Israel then those incompetent kikes would disperse to the four corners of the earth, not to be heard from as a group for another 2000 years. As for the embryos, fuck 'em.
"Although the killing in Israel is terrible, America cannot do anything about it"
Apart from *not* rush-ordering additional arms to Israel, you mean? Oh, wait...
In my view, saving some, no matter what state, is better than saving no life.
In that case, supporting a ban on stem cell research is the ultimate hypocrisy. Stem cell research has the potential to save lives. Banning it will do nothing; embryos will be thrown away and destroyed rather than used.
Incidentally, a relative of mine recently received stem cell based treatment in Europe; such treatment would be impossible here, due to the high number of "pro-life" people who want people to suffer so that they can throw away stem cells rather than use them.
So, do female fundies go into mourning once a month when their bodies reject an unfertilised egg? Because, surely, that's half a baby going to waste right there??
Hey, I've got it even worse! I'm male! Every sperm is sacred, so I'd be killing "potential babies" by tbe million!
An unconcious mesh of biological material, whilst genetically human, isn't the same as a person. Learn the difference, Sugar.
If we can save more people in the long run, then surely it would have been worth it for a few mindless cells?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
