I don't know about you....but it seems all these folks predate the Millennials.
A lot of Bernie supporters are uncomfortable with and on the fence as far as Trangender issues. That's why it's not a huge ticket or policy issue for them either, that sad thing here is things like this is ALL Right Wingers zero in on. It would be so much better for votes had the Dems pushed this off, most Dems wished they had.
So now Bernie and Hillary supporters have to carry the weight of this legislation but what's worse is the Repugs can run on a candidacy based on nothing but this issue. In many Southern Bible Belt states, which are economically tanking due to Ayn Rand values, they just rev their dumbfuck crowds up entirely on Trangenders trying to get to your little girls (before papa or big brother apparently) and having to never speak of real government responsibilities like budgets and law.
It's happening right now. Along with the Anti Federal Government ass clowns (But luckily the Bundy Circus Crappicus has cut back a bit on that).
