I will still boycott the movie. The more I read about Pullman and his evil books, the more I hate him.

If a bunch of people who have not read the books all tell each other they are evil, then it must mean they are evil. I eagerly await the opinions of more people who haven't read the book because it's evil, tell me that it's evil. That way, I'll know for sure it's really evil without ever reading it.
PS - If you've read it, you're evil. Your opinion doesn't count.
I'd love to see them all standing on the corner with their little signs and shit boycotting just to see how stupid they'd look.
Something tells me that soon, however, they will move into the realm of suicide bombery...then we're screwed.
Read the books first, then make the informed opinion on whether or not you hate the books. I hate "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe", but that doesn't mean I hate CS Lewis. (at least I think that's who wrote it... CBF looking it up.)
But you fundies have no idea what an informed opinion is do you? You more prefer the pre-formed opinion.
*sigh*
This frustrates me to no end.
Either read his stuff, and THEN form an opinion, or don't read, don't look, and SHADDAP!
Fundie book review process:
1) Avoid reading the book. Instead, just copy bits out of it that you find quoted on fundie sites.
2) Copy a review from someone who thinks exactly like you, preferably someone who has also never read the book.
Embellish as needed. (It doesn't matter that you don't know what's actually IN the book, as long as you make sufficiently self-righteous and biased statements.)
3) If it isn't written by a Bush appointee or a famous fundie evangelical leader, denounce it as evil/Satanic/promoting an "evil agenda."
The more I read about Pullman and his evil books, the more I hate him.
Why does it have to be hatred for these people? Why is simple disagreement never enough?

Christianity. The Religion of Love...as they LOVE to HATE things.
(My apologies to the more moderate Christians in here. I suppose Fundamentalist Baptist would be more appropriate, no? That said, they make no secret that they're all about the hatin'.)
It's funny: I never would have been interested in the books if the fundies weren't throwing such a fit over them. They inspired me to read the trilogy last week. The books aren't bad, but I'm not a fan of Pullman's writing style, and the ending is a bit predictable. The books certainly aren't "evil" like the ignorant horse's asses would have you believe.
to be fair the "" here annoyed me the most!

If you don't support the movie's ideas, fine. Don't see it. But don't worry about it, either. God's not going to go away because of a movie.
I know.
"Professor" Dawkins thought that his book would wreck theism worldwide.
Blessings and love.

Bah, there are better reasons to boycott the movie. The main one being that it's terrible. Pullman isn't evil, it's all Hollywood.*
*Not meant to imply a hatred of Hollywood, they just fucked up the book badly.
I never would have been interested in the books if the fundies weren't throwing such a fit over them.
Heh, that's iatrogenic*. I bought the trilogy as well, although I haven't read it yet as I'm systematically going through several other books (right now it's The Selected Satires of Lucian .)
*basically means that the "cure" actually causes the "disease," or, something which causes that which it is trying to prevent. I just learned it the other day and had to use it.
It would be fun to see how fundies react to the way the heroine in Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke - which I found much more interesting than The Golden Compass - has to put herself under the influence of opium in order to solve a crime. (Then again, the drug thing doesn't specifically have to do with theism, so maybe they wouldn't bother.)
@Sleekit
Yeah, I know. Dawkins is accredited in his field, but since he doesn't screech "GODDIDIT!" he's a quack. Hovind pretty much writes "DIPLOMA" on a cereal box, and he's an authority on all things scientific.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
