So, by your rules, I HAVE to believe in some religion, no matter how stupid that religion might be? I could believe in the pink unicorn, Jesus Christ or the FSM, but I'm not allowed to be an atheist? Have you ever taken a moment to think about the impossibility enforcing laws concerning belief?
Actually, the BoR says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
So it is just as unconsitutional to insist someone have a religion as to prohibit the practice of one.
Papabear, say to SW20 that you are a Pastafarian, and I bet he will be angry for that.
God, are those guys stupid! God loves everyone, so get your sword. I guess someone have to start defending against god.
We have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion!
Yes we do. As far as I can see, not believing in a god is just as valid as choice as beliving in one, and one that is equally covered under this freedom. If it weren't, then freedom of religion would be pretty meaningless.
Feel the Christian love!
We have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion! Actually, at least where I live, we have both. Also, we have freedom from government-established religion, not freedom of government-established religion.
We have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion!
We have Freedom of Speech, not Freedom FROM Speech... so you're not allowed to ever stop talking.
If the fundies are going to be charging us with swords and medieval armour, I'll invest in a machine gun, several thousand rounds of ammunition, and a video camera to record the hilarity.
Didn't the Catholic Church try something like this back in the 11th-13th centuries and got their asses kicked? Also, Jesus was pretty much of a pacifist. If you were following him, he'd tell you "go the fuck home and reread the Golden Rule - at the end of your life, there's going to be a test on it".
The Constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion ..." ("establishment" means endorsement or stamp of approval)- sounds like freedom from religion to me. The Supreme Court agrees.
This songwriter needs to learn the Horst-Wessel-Lied:
Die Fahne hoch!
Die Reihe fest geschlossen!
SA marschiert mit mutig festen Schritt!
[etc, etc]
I'm guilty of a Godwin, of course....
Songwriter20, you are indeed a poster child for freedom *from* religion.
God loves you, and told me to smite you to death with this sword to prove it! I suspect you are more like the Apostle Peter in the Garden who showed his bravery by attacking, with his sword, the only "unarmed" man (a servant) in the Pharisee arrest party! And you can eliminate freedom of religion in your little fundie Nazi fantasy worlds, but in AMERICA we'll keep what our Founding Fathers set up 200 years ago which is "freedom of and freedom from" religion.
Ok, We need to fortify the city against the christards. A Maxim gun emplacement at every intersection, Supported by a squad of rifle infantry. And roving platoons of Heavy inantry to support threatened sectors.
Hold the tanks and motorized troops in reserve.
We can stop them like we stopped the facisti at stalingrad.
When I read that I hoped for a second it was some (rather f*cked up) advertisment for some christian game or something...
Sadly, I was wrong.
Besides, sword = love (of god)? I don't wanna know what you're doing there.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
