""So there's only so many rights to go around. If we let gays have some there are less for the rest of us. This is a common concept in religious claims about "rights"(in quotes because rights don't work that way). "
Rights precede both government and the collective. If a right has to be granted by the collective then it's more of a privilege than an actual right. That's why rightists consider life and property to be actual rights and things like welfare (which require taking property from other people) not a right."
This is standard antigay propaganda from the religious peoples information ministry I have read many times on religious website. Again you prove my point and completely miss it at the same time.
Government and the collective preceed rights. Different societies define rights differently.
Gravity and evolution are real things. If nobody believes them they still exist.
Rights are social constructs. In Saudi Arabia you have the right to be muslim, but not to be hindu. In Carson's mind you have the right to be christian but not muslim. In American constitutional law congress has no right to make laws regarding establishment of religion. None of these things would exist without anyone to believe them.
"There is nothing stopping gays from living together. There is nothing stopping gays from having sex, anti-sodomy laws haven't existed in years in the west. There is nothing stopping gays from writing wills to each other so they inherit shit, just like you can write a will to your friend Bob. There is nothing stopping you from having a party / ceremony for that matter and calling it a "marriage". All you would have to do is find a non-conventional church that allows such ceremonies or make up your own religion. (Or just skip the religious part and throw a party and call that "marriage".)"
This is standard antigay propaganda from the religious peoples information ministry I have read many times on religious website. Again you prove my point and completely miss it at the same time.
Regarding gays writing wills, look up the Supreme Court Windsor decision that had the theists screaming with rage, then come back here and say that again.
"Why then do you need the government to be involved and grant you all these special benefits or even acknowledge your relation? What exactly does gay sex produce for a society to be involved in that sort of thing? Why should I have to pay taxes and part of those taxes go to subsidize gay relations, things like housing benefits for example or whatever programs are available depending on the country's law?"
This is standard antigay propaganda from the religious peoples information ministry I have read many times on religious website. Again you prove my point and completely miss it at the same time.
Why should gays have to pay taxes and part of those taxes go to subsidize straight relations, things like housing benefits for example or whatever programs are available depending on the country's law?
Didn't think this through didja? Instead you copypasted from the religious peoples information ministry.
We could do marriages like you suggest, but
1. Those laws make childhood more secure and
2. the theists would restart screaming with rage if we tried it your way.
"You're a simpleton if you think this is religious based and you clearly haven't been paying attention to what people on the right say. You can find dozens of people all over the Internet, atheists included (RockingMrE for example), saying these things."
Your're a simpleton if you think, after my previous post you could copypaste from theist
claims and think I wouldn't catch on. I haven't searched out anti gay atheist opinions specifically, but all anti-marriage arguments I've read are copypastes of what you've been saying.
"Another form of non-conventional family is mixed race marriage, which could legitimately be claimed to detrimental to children, and was not socially acceptable nor encouraged by government."
"Dumbest example ever. Black women are still women. Black men are still men. Take any combination, they can fuck, they can produce healthy off-spring, the basic concept of the nuclear family: one man, one woman and their children remains intact. Inter-racial marriage ban is actually an attack on the nuclear family, a totally arbitrary restriction that should have never been there in the first place."
Dumbest response ever. It is almost word for word identical to what I see on religious websites.
This is standard antigay propaganda from the religious peoples information ministry I have read many times on religious website. Also race restrictions on marriage are not arbitrary, they are obvously required by natures god and nature itself. At least it is if you were living 50 years ago. People 50 years in the future will be
pointing and laughing at the dumbassery you are posting here in 2016.
Again you prove my point and completely miss it at the same time.
