Oh yes, we can't have those nasty Atheists actually DEBATING here! They could use those "logic" and "reason" things, those make my brain hurt!
Ok, all seriousness. This kind of disturbing.
1. Atheists are not a race.
2. Atheists don't pollute a forum. Unless by "pollute" you mean "start rational conversation".
3. You are forcing this user to leave because you disagree with his religious choice.
4. So let me get this straight. You believe that Atheists are polluting the forum, and so you don't want him to stay at the forum unless he joins your cult. Oh yeah, that sure is love.
Hi,
This is incredible reading 8 years after submitting. Yes, I am the guy who wrote the original post. Not that it's any excuse or anything but I was 17 years old at the time. I was brought up in a christian family, went to a christian high school and all my friends were christians. So I was locked up in this "bubble" of christianity. Just popped in to let you know that I'm now an atheist and I feel embarrased when reading this. This post deserves to be on this website but rest assured I no longer stand for it.
My spelling and taste in music has also improved.
@Me Again
We all say stupid shit sometimes, especially around 17 (which is partly why using a pseudonym when posting on the internets is highly recommended). However not merely being stupid, this quote is tragically telling of the effects of fundie christianity on the brain, as it keeps you from associating with or even forming any kind of positive relations with anyone who doesn't think like you.
"So I was locked up in this "bubble" of christianity. Just popped in to let you know that I'm now an atheist and I feel embarrased when reading this."
We hear it a lot. As you've likely learned, as many others have learned when they put their indoctrinated bigotry aside, that the world is so much more interesting, colorful, and welcoming than in the creepy covens of Xianity. I'm glad you managed to grow out of it - as this website and many others attest there are still far too many people trapped in it. As a note (to you and everyone else), you did not have to become an atheist to pal around with us, and so I sincerely hope that that was your own personal decision free of any sense of coercion. Thanks for the follow up.
Me becoming an atheist was indeed a result of my own thought and reasoning and not in any degree a consequence of external pressure or force. It came to a point where I simply _dared_ asking skeptical question about my own faith - something I had never done before.
The funny part is that I didn't know of this website untill today. I simply googled all my previous nicknames I had used through the years and I found this. It's an amazing feeling reading something you wrote 8 years ago and observe how dramatically your perception of reality can change.
Anyway, great website! Will be coming back! :D
Welcome to the rational world, Me Again!
Thank you for posting your followup. It was such a pleasure to read, and I hope we'll be seeing more of you around here. :)
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
