we haven’t taken this to its ultimate conclusion.
Legalized same sex marriage was the goal, and therefore the ultimate conclusion. You can talk all about slippery slopes if you want, but it's kind of pointless if no one is standing on one.
You got polygamy out there
So.
How can we rule that polygamy is illegal when you say that homosexual marriage is legal.
Because same sex marriage doesn't say that a person may take multiple wives and/or husbands. Marriage is legaly define as a union of two people. Besides, when was the last time the polygamist lobby reared it's head? I don't recall anyone protesting for any of the numerous "rights" that you are no doudt going to claim they want.
What is it about polygamy that’s different?
Traditional polygamy is unbalenced and sexist, and in most instances (At least in the US) it was not the result of a mutual decision between all parties, but instead the appointment of a "wife" to a man regardless of her wishes. I, personally, would not have a problem with polygamy if it required the consent of all parties involved. (Which would make it far, far less likely.)
Well, polygamy was outlawed because it was considered immoral according to biblical standards.
Really now Pat? i can't recall "god" scolding any of his chosen people for have a polygamist harem. Have you even read your bible Pat? Don't you know what your "god" says about lying?
But if we take biblical standards away in homosexuality, what about the other?
Because "biblical standards" have nothing to do with State Civil Law. Period. The bible is the governing document of the American republic, and you disgrace the founders by suggesting that it is.
And what about bestiality and ultimately what about child molestation and pedophilia?
Still against the law. Neither children nor animals are capable of giving informed mutual consent, and more to the point, how does same sex marriage lead to bestiality or pedophilia? There is no provable link from homosexuality to either of those and just because same sex marriage is allowed doesn't mean we have to allow something completely different. In some states you are allowed to shoot and kill a person who is robbing you on your property, but that doesn't mean that we have to make murder legal.
Your arguments are fucking worthless. An appeal from "The bible says" is useless in a non theocratic society, neither your bible, your religion, nor even your "god" is a governing priciple in a society that places value of the freedom of religion.
How can we criminalize these things and at the same time have constitutional amendments allowing same-sex marriage among homosexuals.
Because marriage, gay or straight, is an institution that relies on a principle of mutual consent. None of your examples are consider capable of giving informed consent. Is that so hard for you to wrap your head around?
You mark my words, this is just the beginning in a long downward slide in relation to all the things that we consider to be abhorrent.
And the same was said at one time or another about marrying outside of ones social caste, about freeing slaves, about interdenominational or interfaith marriage, about interracial marriage, you and your ilk were wrong all those times, so why should anyone think you are right now?
Let's get down to the heart of the issue. Your real problem is that your kind feel they have some kind of specials status that gives you the right to dictate how other people can or cannot live. It's not about morality, it's about control, it's about power, and it's about fear. You fear that which is not like you, you fear change, for change wipes away the staus quo, and with it the power over people and social institutions which you seem to have mistakenly believed to be your birth right.
