Pennsylvania Rep. Gary Sims, an openly gay legislator, was blocked from speaking on the floor of the state House on Wednesday by a colleague who believed Sims’ plans to speak about the U.S. Supreme Court’s marriage decision would be in "open rebellion against God’s law.”
According to WHYY, Rep. Daryl Metcalfe raised a procedural objection to stop Sims from speaking during a part of the House session in which legislators often give wide-ranging remarks.
"I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make that ultimately were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said, what God has said, and just open rebellion against God's law," said Metcalfe, R-Butler.

He was voted in same as you, and has just as much right to speak.
How fragile is your faith that you feel the need to silence anyone who doesn't agree with you?
"I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make..."
CONSTITUTION, MOTHERFUCKER...

So, where in the rules of the state House does it say anything about the Word of God? What part of the constitution mentions God's law?
What you're doing, Mr Metcalfe, is censorship, which is not consistent with a democracy. If you want a dictatorship, move to China, Russia or Cuba. Or perhaps not, soon they will be way too progressive and democratic for your taste, Bubba.
I just find it totally alarming that these buffoons can silence their own fellow co-legislators and prevent them from doing their job. Censoring & silencing a fellow legislator/senator/etc. should be illegal. If you think someone's ideas are dumb, let them speak fully, THEN you can rebut!
But that's the thing with the Tealiban, they KNOW they would be verbally destroyed, so they silence the person who could so TOTALLY put them in their place!
It happened with this guy. It happened with members of Wisconsin legislature who spoke out against Walker, it happened with female legislators concerning the word "vagina".
Even with the SCOTUS messing with the Civil Rights act, I still feel that we can still take back this nation in 2014! Not all black & Hispanics are poor or have a hard time getting an ID. There are non-driver's license IDs that are fairly inexpensive. With a little help, the poor can get the stuff necessary to vote. TONS of whites are disgusted with the Tealiban and many saner Republicans are switching to Democratic.
And here's food for thought, a silver lining:

NOW, LET'S GET THESE BOZOS OUTTA POWER IN 2016!

I wish I could down vote a comment. Seriously, the "tealiban"?
This is called "left-wing fundamentalism".

Calling somebody a funny name is fundamentalism now? Right-wing fundamentalism is about rewriting the entire American legal body, changing the nation's education system and injecting society with ideas coming from centuries ago. Left-wing fundamentalism is about... saying "tealiban"?
Is this like when you are a radical atheist just for speaking your mind, whereas you need to murder somebody to be a radical Christian?
Well, the next time he discusses anything due to take place or that regularly take place on a Friday evening or Saturday, I hope a Jewish legislator will get up and make the same speech about him.
@mythbuster43
As James Carville said, politics in Pennsylvania is Philadelphia at one end of the state and Pittsburgh at the other and in between is Alabama.
"According to WHYY"
Why, indeed...
Paler_Face mused:
America, please stop voting these clown into office!
For that to happen, you need a smarter electorate - sorry, can't see it happen any time soon!
"were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said"
First amendment jackass. Gary Sims should not have been censored. But Metcalfe, you need an education on the Constitution
Surely this was quite unconstitutional?
God's law holds no standing over American law, or the American Constitution - or has theocracy already happened?
This ranks up in the top 10 reasons I have ever been disappointed in my country.
Good job Daryl, you're jerk assery is near the level of PRISM, Waterboarding, Internment camps, and slavery.
thanks for proving that you don't give a shit about freedom and you hate america metacalfe!
all this proves is that you know you guys are losing the battle. just accept you lost with some sort of dignity and move on, you guys are as relevant as racists now.

Ah, the old Pre-emptive Strike. Gotta love them R-tards.
Wait... Isn't this, like, legit illegal. When you factor in his motivations, someone should realize- oh, yea, that's bullshit. You can speak now, Gary.
"I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make that ultimately were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said, what God has said, and just open rebellion against God's law,"
Okay. Take not only Mr. Sims to court in a private prosecution, but the entire SCOTUS too. Present as 'evidence' your 'God's Law'. Then all Mr. Sims - and the Supreme Court Justices - have to do is to present to the judge, jury and you copies of a document: the US Constitution.
They would simply ask you to look at that document extremely carefully. Then ask you to point out where the words 'God', 'Jesus', 'Creator' and 'Marriage' appear therein.
Fact is, bub, not even the Bible is admissable as evidence in a court of law to back up what it itself claims. Just ask the defence in Kitzmiller vs. Dover , so be prepared to have your 'case' laughed out of court, if not Mr. Sims take out a counter-suit against you Daryl, for impeding the legal right - as per the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution - of his Freedom of Speech .
A definite case of 'Where is your God now?!', pal.

No, left-wing fundamentalism, just like right-wing fundamentalism, is about soundbytes, groupthink, and logical fallacies.
In other words, it's about not thinking. Everything else is a separate, but possibly related, issue.
I actually agree with you that the objection is BS; God Said So is not how the government works, because the US is not a theocracy. That's right-wing fundamentalism; don't question it, because God says so. But we're all intellectuals here; just because I don't agree with you does not mean I'm with them.
As a Pennsylvania citizen, I am facepalming so hard I might get a nosebleed.
I say we just eject these bigots & replace 'em with Quakers. Nice folks, non-judgmental, averse to pushing their faith on others even indirectly. Basically, what Christians SHOULD be.
Confused?
