(I am fucking disgusted.)
Well, that seems to be it. Obama has been elected. What a surprise that he won in Ohio and Pennsylvania where his ACORN cronies were out in force. I can't be too niggardly with my criticism for the RINOs in Virginia, Colorado, and New Mexico. Democracy as we know it is over and Conservapedia's mission is clearer than ever. We must be one of the last bastions of America until we can take back our country.

I guess the fact that niggardly means cheap, and comes from a completely different root than nigger means absolutely nothing to you.
ooooohhhhhhh, them be lurnin big wurdz. thems smartz.
Hmm, the other members are calling him out and saying that Obama won legitimately. I may just have found a shred of respect for Conservapedia.
While I'm happy that homosexuals have been denied special rights, I'm not gloating over the anti-homosexual initiatives because there's so much more work to be done
... and a few posts down, there it goes again. Oh Conservapedia, when will you learn.
Well, 'niggardly' is a real word. But, um, there's a reason people don't use it anymore.
Because idiotic people are easily offended?
I mean seriously, it's like getting pissed over the word "asinine" because it sounds like the word ass.
Conservapedia: Now with 100% more fortress mentality!
"I mean seriously, it's like getting pissed over the word "asinine" because it sounds like the word ass."
Except...asinine means "like an ass" so...you can see why that would be a problem for analogy's sake...
But, I do agree that people getting worked up over "niggardly" are a little misguided since it is not inherently racist, and does not have a racist definition, or even an etymology in common with "nigger", and all permutations thereof. But, I think the offense is in that sound almost indistinguishable when spoken. And that, possibly in the case of the relevant post, it is intentionally used because of that similarity, in order to get their jollies by using it as a casual reference to the slur, and then retreating behind the fact that the word itself isn't technically related to it. It's a perverse ploy.
Nisshoku, I realize it's an actual word. But I know, you know, and QWest definitely knows that "stingy" would have worked just as well.
Niggardly is correctly used there. Understand English etymology and perhaps you would not be so disgusted.
On the other hand, it could have been an intentional misuse...
1. Disliking Obama =/= racism.
2. ACORN did NOT commit fraud. However, some of its workers did, although it wasn't fraudulent voting (fraudulent registration).
3. McCain screwed up his own chances. I dislike Obama, but I would have had a hard time pulling the lever for Candidate McCain. (Senator McCain, on the other hand...)
4. Conservative PV? Sure. Stupid statement? Certainly. Fundie? No. Not one reference to God, the Bible or religion generally. As this is not the "Stupid People Say the Darndest Things" website, I'll have to give it a 1.

"Conservapedia is even more offensive than Encyclopedia Dramatica."
Yeah, I suppose so. What makes Conservapedia worse, though, is that its content is actually meant to be taken seriously, as opposed to being a collection of the twisted senses of humor of a group of Internet users like ED is.

"What is a RINO???"
Republican In Name Only
I'm... actually quite surprised by the majority of the posts on that page. Conservapedia, in my past experience, has been nothing but a textual version of the vitriol Rush Limbaugh and Micheal Savage spout, but this... I'm PLEASANTLY surprised by how nice most of the posters are!
... I never thought I'd say this, but go Conservapedia!
No, the word "niggardly" isn't racist but it sure looks like he was intentionally trying to work it into what he was saying.
This guy probably lit a lower case 't' on fire on somebody's lawn for "Time to watch Obama win the election"
By the way, RSTDT?
Actually, niggardly means frugal. It's a Shakespeare word. I certainly hope this person isn't a teacher.
I once had an English teacher who said she asked the (black) principal for funds for something and he said no and she said "don't be so niggardly" and everyone gasped. Luckily he knew what the word meant.
Niggardly is a word, but stingy is a better word to use. Stingy can't be confused for a racial slur.
Am I the only one who thinks that there was an... uh... very specific reason for QWest's choice of that word?
"Niggardly" means cheap, or stingy.
"I can't be too stingy with my criticism".
However, given that the grammar doesn't quite work, I'll go with the theory that he used that word to be a racist douchehead.
Actually, the word 'niggardly' has nothing to do with the word 'nigger'....it comes from an entirely different root. But it isn't commonly used anymore because of the potential for misunderstanding.
I had to laugh at this part, though:
'Democracy as we know it is over..'
He only believes in democracy when his preferred candidate wins......
It's a real word, it's Slavic in origin, and it means miserly or stingy. Some politician here in Canadian got into some shit like, twelve years ago for using it in a perfectly cromulent sentence, but no, it is a real word, and it doesn't mean anything close to what it looks like.
Although yeah, it doesn't show up in conversations much for fairly obvious reasons.
The word has no connection to the racial slur. Whether or not QWest knows this, I can't say for sure. It's a word you have to be careful when using. It's definitely not a word I would use when discussing a black person, however, because that is just begging to be misinterpreted.
So, I have to say, "meh." It might have been an unwise choice of words on QWest's part, but this is more intelligent than half of what gets posted on Conservapedia, and it's not necessarily racist.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
