Anyway I thought it was biblical law for a man to marry his dead brothers widow and have children with her.
Deuteronomy

And doesn't Paul state that widows under 60 should get married so that they don't become gossipy busy-bodies?

I guess someone's mother remarried before someone got over the unfortunate loss of a father.

If you've lost your father, I am deeply sorry, but don't take it out on your mother. My bet is on that she's mourned the loss of her husband for quite some time and felt completely and utterly helpless many times. That's a deep black place I can only hope I never have to go through, only topped by the loss of a child.

If your mother is able to love again, then that is the most wonderful thing ever. Don't take that away from her by taking yourself away from her, instead embrace it with your entire heart. Your father's only wish would've been for you and your mother to be happy.

I beg to differ. There can be many man in a woman's heart, if she so chooses (hyuk hyuk). By Sukanthan's "logic", only having one man in the heart once married would technically mean that she cannot love her father, grandfather, uncles, brothers, cousins and any other extended male family members and friends. By his thinking, this would continue even if her spouse died. It makes no allusions to the possibility of the wife dying, or the husband divorcing the wife. It is completely one-sided, totally illogical and full of frothing hate coupled with a strange fascination for lactating breasts. In conclusion... it fails.

It was only around a hundred years ago that it wasn't considered a disgrace if a hindu wife didn't immolate herself with her dead husband. Then they were subject to living in separate communities and could not eat certain foods, like dairy and (I think fish, onions and garlic - onion and garlic are meant to inflame passion). This was particularly sad as due to the practice of arranged marriages many widows were very young (some still more or less virgins). Tagore worked this theme into many of his works together with the theme of the partition of Bengal, see Chokeer Bali. However Tagore, being an excellent and thoughtful person, deplored this practice. Sukanthan on the other hand needs to see me for a series of 'lessons' in how not to be an cockhead, on the bright side if he doesn't pass he will be unlikely to able to marry anyone anyway.

One, I don't feel like repeating what I said above.
Two, divorces happen because they don't love each other anymore (adultery, or in some cases, they just lose their spark) or harm each other. It's not just "BAW SHE DOESN'T LIKE WHAT HER ~~SLAVEDRIVER~~ HUSBAND DOES".

Men are all kinds of obsessed with having faithful wives because they are afraid of having to raise another man’s child.
If a man is dead, there’s absolutely no societal expecations that the dead guy will have a responsibility to raise his wife’s next kid.
He gains nothing by her fidelity to his memory, but he loses nothing by her moving on with her life.

And this is why marriage vows include ‘until death do us part,’ so that no one’s marriage extends into the afterlife. If this were not so, then two men might end up expecting to have a right to have sex with their wife in the next world, which might force someone into a threesome against their will.
