A complaint has been registered at Bengaluru’s Koramangala police station after a video showing a man aggressively interrupting what appears to be a Christian prayer programme went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and calls for police action.

In the video, the man, identified as Satyanishta Arya, along with a few associates, is seen confronting a Christian priest and members of the congregation. Wearing a tilak, he repeatedly interrupts the programme and questions the priest, asking, “What is Jesus Christ’s book?” When the priest responds, “The Gospel of John and the Bible,” the man launches into a tirade, mocking Christian beliefs and religious texts.

He is heard making derogatory remarks about the Bible, questioning its origins, and asserting the supremacy of Hindu scriptures such as the Vedas, Manusmriti, and the Upanishads. “We will never follow any Christian’s Bible… Jai Shri Ram!” he shouts in the video. He also declares, “Jesus Christ is not ours. Who is ours? Lord Rama, am I right?”

The video further shows him making inflammatory comparisons to the Babri Masjid, suggesting forced religious change, and using abusive language against Muslim cleric Maulana Mehmood Madani.

“Maulana Mehmood Madani is an anti-national… That bastard should be arrested. Can you say that?” he asks.

He also mocks the Christian belief in the virgin birth of Jesus, repeatedly questioning the priest about Mother Mary’s pregnancy and ridiculing the explanation of conception through the Holy Spirit. At several points, he is seen intimidating those present, including telling others not to speak and abusing a woman who questions him.

Mahendra Hembram, one of the convicts in the brutal murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two young sons, was released from Odisha’s Keonjhar jail on Wednesday after spending 25 years in jail.

Officials said the release was granted on the grounds of “good behaviour,” based on the recommendations of the Odisha State Sentence Review Board and in accordance with the state’s premature release policy.

Now 51, Hembram was convicted for his role in the horrifying attack that took place on the night of January 21, 1999, when a Hindu right-wing mob torched a jeep in which Staines and his sons — Timothy (6) and Philip (10) — were sleeping in Manoharpur village, Keonjhar district.

The three were burned alive, a crime that drew global outrage and became a grim symbol of Hindutva violence in India.

At the time of the crime, Hembram was 25 years old and part of the group that carried out the deadly assault.

Upon his release, he was garlanded by supporters, who raised Hindutva slogans of “Jai Shri Ram.”

Local Hindutva leader and social media influencer Aadesh Soni called on Hindus to attack, rape, and kill Christians across the villages of Bishrampur, Ganeshpur, and Jhanakpur in Chhattisgarh in March, accusing them of “brainwashing children” through conversion efforts

Aadesh Soni declared on social media that the plan was to “kill all Christians, violate the honor of their daughters and daughters-in-law, commit obscene acts against them, forcibly enter Christian homes, and spare no one but corrupt them all”

Soni called on his followers to mobilise at least 50,000 people for an attack on March 1, 2025, explicitly stating that Christian families would be targeted, their leaders executed, and any trace of their faith erased from the region

In a widely circulated video, he calls for the public humiliation, stripping, raping, and killing of Christian men, women, and children

“I have got the support of the administration, this is enough for me,” he claimed

In his Facebook post, he also referred to Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati’s speech at Prayagraj, where it was declared that Hindus must “kill all Christians, and none should be spared”

Avimukteshwaranand called for 1,000 Hindus to rise and “slay those who slay our mother cow. Do not ask for the death penalty for cow slayers—kill them and ask for the death penalty for yourselves. Do not wait for the law to act”
