why do men think this is funny?

Because men are raised to try to at least pretend to be secure with themselves to a fault, to the point of literal stupidity. Both men and women reward men who seem able to transcend insecurity.

Basically men think this type of shit is funny because we have to or else we’re being weak/insecure, and only women are allowed to be insecure. Men don’t care if women are insecure, we will still accept them and even sympathize because we see them as people. Women see men as status objects more than as human beings and can’t tolerate insecurity in men. As a result people hold men in contempt for expressing insecurity.
