A) Why are there scare quotes around "young people?" B) To answer your question, gee, I dunno, maybe it's because we've become tolerant enough to realize that being gay is no big deal and you shouldn't be institutionally harassed because of it?

B) I don't care one bit if I lack whatever moral code you seem to ascribe to. In fact, that's something to be happy about. And if God can be cast out of those places, he ain't exactly omnipresent, is he? Is God such a fragile, egomaniacal little thing that he has to be constantly worshipped even in the most wildly inappropriate places? Religion should not be present in schools. Religion sure as HELL should not be present in the Government. Ditto the military. And yes, I think religion shouldn't even be present in families, either. Indoctrinating people while they're still children and don't know any better or have any choice is sick. People should at least wait until the kid's become a teenager and can think for themselves before trying to convert them.

The fact that you've just publicly acknowledged it kinda confirms that your right to free speech is still in place. That doesn't make what you say true, as I'm sure many historians can explain in great detail.

Oh, yes, heaven forbid we turn into a secular liberal society with so many rules and regulations and handouts and no "under God" in the pledge, just like FDR's and LBJ's 40's and 50's. That was such a sucky period of American history, with a 90 percent tax rate on the rich, separation of the stock market and banks, and so much government pork going to things like the world's best infrastructure and higher education. Yep, a real hell on earth that's doomed to fail.

If what your idea of what America should be- a Gilded-Age theocracy- is dead, then good fucking riddance. I don't particularly feel like living in a place reminiscent of Dickensian London, with a side order of Iranian religious fervor.
