If you want to justify sin taxes on junk food and cigarettes due to health care costs... be sure to calculate how much money has been spent on STDs, AIDS/HIV, etc., by the tax payers.

It shall never cease to amaze me how sheltered a life I've had living in Canada.
Now, I think I figured out a way to tax homosexuality: breach a citizen's right to privacy and have the government install cameras in ever house, apartment, and condo. Anytime someone sleeps with the same gender, slap 'em both in iron or fine them one thousand dollars for every minute they lay together.

Outrageous? Yes. But let's look back to the original comment and tell me: aren't there at least some Americans who would actually support that?

First, it's not that a particular behavior is sinful. It's that it's unhealthy. Gay sex isn't inherently unhealthy.

THAT is not hate speech. THAT is the equivalent of saying women who wear pants are sinful. Homosexuals do not have the rihgt to not be offended either, and saying either statement will result in some people agreeing with you, and many others looking at you like you grew horns.

No, it's just taxing a commodity that has known negative effects...at least here in Canada, it's used to help mitigate costs that are known to arise from use of said product. Or so the tale goes...

Ignoring a discriminatory tax against a group (And no, fat smokers don't qualify. There's a difference between addiction and sexual identity.) you can tax a product. You cannot tax a behavior. Unless, of course, you plan on using tax as a euphemism for "fine."
