Fred Phelps is a fraud. He's actually a liberal out to make anyone who opposes homosexuals look evil and psychotic. He's dedicated his life to making a sham of all attempts to show homosexuality as a sin, ensuring his face and funeral protests are the first image that comes to mind whenever anyone calls homosexuality a sin.
He's the greatest and most damaging ally the homosexuals have. More and more Christians are supporting homosexuals because of the act Phelps puts on. His act of outrageous and over the top hatred fuels a stereotype of those who oppose homosexuals and their agenda, causing many religious leaders to forsake the Bible in favor of looking "humane" in order to avoid being equated with Phelps.
Perhaps Uganda has it right, and the Homosexuals should just be rounded up and sent to their own island where they can't do any damage to the rest of us.

Admittedly, the idea of Phelps being a Super-Poe is pretty amusing.
But that isn't how it works, buddy.
Actually, from what I've seen and heard, even if Phelps is a fraud, he mirrors what fundamentalists believe and practice. His intolerance, bigotry, hate, and violent ways perfectly demonstrate what it means to be a fundamentalist Christian. I'm actually happy to see that at least this poster is starting to 'get it', even if his ideas on why are a bit skewed. Of course, I thought that until I seen his last line, then I thought "under-cover fundy", and all hope of saving this lost soul was, well, lost. At least reality still makes sense.

They don't do any damage to the rest of us now. I live next door to a gay couple. It hasn't affected me one bit.
You know I almost agree with this. Phelps has helped gay rights by showing just how ugly homophobia is.
Does this mean Phelps is only pretending to be homophobic? Probably not but I can't know what goes on in a man's head.
Of course, by this token Alexander Cornswalled could justas easily be a plant as well.
I know most of you (all of you?) won't care, but I think I have to leave this site.
I'm trying to reconcile my faith with my sexuality, and this.. stuff just isn't helping...

That is a FANTASTIC idea! Can I choose the island? Let it be Hawaii or New Zealand. Or, hey, here's an idea, let it be the British Isles!

I have sympathy for you, however it seems to be the case that the Bible is pretty clear on homosexuality, and Phelps is actually quite accurate in his interpretation of god's opinion of gay people. As a New Atheist, before I am gay, I can not help wonder why you would desire to hang on to a compendium of ancient myths that decry you as sinful and disgusting?

I have to admit that I usually say the same about religious fundamentalists ;)

There is such an island. It's called Manhattan.
(The Give-an-Old-Joke-a-Home Foundation needs your help. Please give generously.)
Uganda has the right idea, but the wrong population in mind.
Let's round up the Christ-stains and put them on a nice desert island where they can't damage the rest of the world.
That would make Phelps the "Troll of the Century".
This is pretty funny really. He's fuming, and he can't do anything about it. He is right, that people like Phelps being so vocal about their beliefs do more to damage the image of fundamentalists, than hurt homosexuals. (Hell, if I ever visit Topeka, Kansas, I would get a photo shot of myself with 'the crazy man of Topeka', it would be hilarious. I'd make a sign up for him to hold with an arrow pointing to me, "unicorn-rejecting pro-swedish fag-enabling stonecutter will burn in hell".)
Maybe when Alexander has stewed on this for a while, it might occur to him that Phelps doesn't have to make gay-hating fundamentalists look evil and psychotic. He is simply dragging them into the spotlight and everyone can see what they are. Worrying about people being simply deceived by stereotypes is PROJECTION.
"they can't do any damage to the rest of us."
Alex's belief that he is damaged by the fact these people exist, and he has the right to punish them simply for existing, is pretty much what I'd call textbook "evil and psychotic behavior".
@scubajesus: Good luck, man. Seriously.
Alexander, Phelps and his clan may indeed be the homosexual community's greatest ally, but don't pretend that he isn't one of you, bigot. He's just louder than most of you.
The dirty fagots troll is back :)

Can the bisexuals get a day pass?
"Wow, a spammer. I wonder what he thinks he's going to achieve."
Maybe he or she is trying to make anyone who opposes homosexuals look evil and psychotic?
So you refute Phelps as an incognito Liberal, and prove real Christians are nothing like him...by acting like him. Classy.
[EDIT] Jojo, go back to the truckstop and suck a cock, okay?
@indigomyth
It's not as though I interpret the Torah literally, but the Jewish community as a whole doesn't accept me and everyone seems to be telling me the Jewish faith doesn't either... I'm not ashamed of being gay, but I don't want to lose either of those things and I don't know how I can be who I am and hold onto them.
Err, personal time over now. And you can see I'm doing a GREAT job leaving alone this site by the way...
Actually, Uganda isn't sending them to their own island. It's more along the lines of "Kill 'em off, and throw their families in jail if they don't immediately report any homosexuals they know about".
Which frankly doesn't seem very Jesus-like.
It's true. Phelphs & Andy Schafler are really pinko undercover agents. Aren't they doing the best job?!
Then again I read your mind fartings and the I get the sinking feeling that comes with knowing that no, they are no parody. They are you.
@Scubajesus: Ditch the faith, keep the culture. It's called being a Secular Jew. I mean, come on, there's a main character on House who's one, you'll be in excellant company!
That's nice. Care to show us any evidence that WBC is in fact working for the gay "agenda"? Notice I said evidence , meaning no conservative bias hogwash.
More Christians accept homosexuals due to witnessing the fact that there are many more than they predicted. It's an issue that has entered their family lives. Many learn they have gay friends and family members and over time learn to accept it and them.
"Perhaps Uganda has it right, and the Homosexuals should just be rounded up and sent to their own island where they can't do any damage to the rest of us."
Whoa! Easy there WBC employee for the gay agenda!

That doesn't sound like a bad idea, now you come to mention it. Let the perpetual fundie traincrash that is Fred Phelps & his Westboro Baptist Church come to my country, and rail against 'Faggots' and 'Fags' here in the UK:

And when passersby look at their placards and say to them "'God hates Fags'? Fair enough, I can understand him not liking cigarettes, but what has he got against pork meatballs?!", it'll make Fred & co. look even bigger twats than they already are.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
