Parents With Inconvenient Truths About Trans #transphobia pittparents.com
[Meeting her son's transgender girlfriend]
I remember when she walked in the room, and I immediately realized that she was not really a she. I confess, this had been one of my biggest fears for my son, as much as it chagrins me to admit this to a group of parents who may feel responsible in some way for their kids being a part of this. I must reassure you that I have no ill-will whatsoever to this gentleman’s parents and, in fact, I wish them the best and their son a swift recovery. When I first realized who had entered my house, though, I confess I did not know what to do, and so I did nothing. I pretended that “she” was a she, even though he clearly was not. I acquiesced to the delusion for the entire time she was in our house, and it was only after she left with my son back to university that I finally worked up the courage to confront my son.

I immediately returned, leaving my husband at the hotel, and when I knocked on the door it was answered, not by my son, but by someone with longer hair, and makeup that made me at first fall for the illusion of womanhood. It was “Leah”, though his makeup made him look less disheveled and unkempt than last time I saw him. He called for my son, in a voice that was a crude approximation of a woman’s, and my son came, and screamed at me to “leave us alone!”. I confronted him about having this young man living with him without telling us, and he screamed, yes screamed, at me that “she [sic] is not [sic] a man, she [sic] is a beautiful [citation needed] woman [sic] who I love very much and if you can’t accept [sic] that, then you can leave”.

Since then, our son has only had very short, angry calls with us. He refuses to see reason and refuses to listen to us patiently explaining how his encouragement of this young man’s delusion is hurting, not just him, but our son as well. He refuses to listen. It pains me to know that my own son is so enthusiastically complicit in the destruction of someone’s beloved son, but at this point I am lost as to how to proceed.
