Marriage makes someone your family. All the griping about how gays need marriage without even knowing what is, smdh
wut?
I mean your spouse is close family, even closer than your parents. That's what marriage means, that's the whole basis of the "hospital visits" people said were so important
Yeah I got that
The bringing in the gays part
I mean liberals who demanded so loudly for gay marriage, often don't even know what marriage is. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, a serious responsibility. Divorce is a perversion, a wrong, an evil. Making perversion the norm and responsibility the exception, as the OP advocates, stems from a complete absence of distinction

Yes, we know that, hence the expression in-laws.
So what are you squawking about exactly? Some gay couples stay together for decades, some young straight couples are lucky to manage to live the dream for more than a year or two. If divorce is the problem, you should have been around in the 1970s, when they introduced laws making it much easier for a husband and wife to get divorced.
Going by the number of divorces, there are more conservatives who don't know what marriage is and are happy to indulge in perversion, wrong and evil. I guess they rationalize it as "My divorce is the only just divorce. I'm saved so I'm sure Jesus would make an exception for me."
@Helen
Bright, happy and gay? Or cheerful, happy and straight?
No, at least one thing that Plebiscite last year proved, is that the only real arguments against SSM involve bigotry.
Most liberals (and socialists and environmentalists and centrists, etc) do know that marriage is a serious responsibility to care for each other indefinitely, hopefully for life.
I still don't understand what this has to do with gays and marriage. I'd guess that the men in the GOP have more divorces between them than all the gays in the US (partly because gays in the US haven't been allowed to get married for that long, but that's not their fault).
Staying in an abusive, toxic or dead marriage is what's a perversion, a wrong, an evil. If you're not able to care for your spouse, he or she has a right not to be your spouse anymore.
@Titania : Bright, happy and gay, or cheerful, straight and happy to have left a dysfunctional relationship, or basically happy in any way that he God has not specifically signed off on.
Gays are family too, dumbass.
Oh; Please preach about divorce to all those "Gawdly Christian Men" and their multiple marriages.
Divorce is a perversion, a wrong, an evil.
I guess a certain Donald T. is in deep trouble, then.
"Divorce is a perversion, a wrong, an evil."
Yes, because BibleGod says, "It's good to be chained to another person whom you can't stand, no matter how abusive or disrespectful of wedding vows, until one of you hurries along that death do you part clause."
If it was good enough for goat fuckers who couldn't count past their number of fingers, it's good enough for the atomic age! Of course, goat fuckers got to kill their wives and blame the victim. Who needed divorce?
nationstates is beyond convincing, having suffered brain damage due to lack of oxygen in the alimentary canal.
Gay men come from straight couples.
Strange how those who screech so loudly against S-SM are those in the Midwest & 'Bible Belt' states: where those oh so heterosexual marriages end up in divorce; one in two of them.
Sir Elton John & David Furnish are still happily married, I see.
"...liberals who demanded so loudly for gay marriage, often don't even know what marriage is."
Now THAT is an assertion out of left field, spoken by someone who doesn't have any statistics but just has to spit out the word "liberal" as a pejorative. It's sort of a verbal tic, just inchoate rage that has to bubble to the surface of the cesspit from time to time. I'd ask him what he was angry about ...but none of the right wing seem to be able to explain their grievance coherently. None seem to have a reason why they should oppose same sex marriage, and none seem to be able to explain why their god should have any say-so in the mundane activities of humans in general. Certainly none of them can explain why we should take their word for it, nor why they think themselves entitled to speak for god.
I mean liberals who demanded so loudly for gay marriage, often don't even know what marriage is.
I've been married for the past 18 years, I think I know what marriage is. And I see no reason that two men or two women can't experience it. Hell, they're likely to do it better than heterosexuals, because men understand men and women understand women better than someone understands the opposite sex.
@Thinking Allowed
So how does marriage not apply to same sex relationships. The OP has yet to show how that is exclusive to heterosexual marriage.
Because it's not REAL marriage, because reasons! Like, how they can't naturally have children but it doesn't apply to sterile heterosexual couples.
@Pharaoh Bastethotep
Divorce is a perversion, a wrong, an evil.
I guess a certain Donald T. is in deep trouble, then.
As are Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, and hundreds of other hypocritical Republicans who have claimed that gay marriage harms traditional marriage, while totally ignoring their own multiple divorces.
“I mean your spouse is close family, even closer than your parents.”
Except i can’t get a kidney from my wife. I could from my sister or mother. That makes both of them pretty damned close.
“ Marriage is a lifelong commitment, a serious responsibility.”
A belief that the secular government doesn’t practice or enforce on anyone.
Kim Davis, whose religion teaches against divorce, has been married three times, IIRC.
SO, this is maybe a reason the Catholics not conduct same-sex marriages, but meaningless for the secular government.
"Divorce is a perversion, a wrong, an evil.”
But legal.
“Making perversion the norm and responsibility the exception, as the OP advocates, stems from a complete absence of distinction.”
Okay. But still, there’s no secular purpose to outlawing divorce. So you’re not actually making any point, here.
Confused?
