For me to say,"Lord I love you, Lord I trust you with everything, Lord take my life, take all of me," but then not trust Him with my womb, then I was a liar if I said that I trusted the Lord. The excuses that I gave for not wanting more children were all selfish and unBiblical:

1. " I can't handle the ones I have...I'm so tired! " - I truly needed to cast my cares upon the Lord. I was so wrapped up in "poor me" that many times it caused me to take my eyes off of Him.

2. "We can't afford more children...."- God supplies for our needs. If I am truly trusting him and acknowledging that all we have comes from Him, then I should be confident that He will supply what is needed for each additional child that He places into our hands.

3. " I'm getting too old! "- I found out many of the stories of dangers in child birth for moms in their 30s and 40s are just myths. But again, God knows how old I am and He is in control of my body. If he places a child in this old body whether it be 34 or 94, He knows what He's doing....do I trust Him?

4. "What about my other kids? They won't get enough attention from me...it just won't be fair to them" - Do you know that the more children we have, the less selfish the kids become? It's amazing how God has done such miracles in the family as it has grown! We're closer now than EVER. Also, it keeps me from spoiling the younger ones (my tendency) the older ones keep me in check on that one...you can BET on that! When you have a larger family, there's just no time for selfishness, excessive privacy, or petty fighting! It would get way too loud! They still try it now and then, but our family size forces us to keep things under control. I have also become extremely organized out of shear necessity. Just another "extra credit" for having a large group in the house.

This isn't answering the question. Also, if you can't handle the kids you have, DON'T HAVE ANY MORE!

So, God supplies nappies, formula (although you're probably breastfeeding as you're QuiverFull), childcare, school uniforms, and other things?

Child. At. NINETY. FOUR. That's horrible! Odds are it WILL do some major damage at that age, and that's if you even manage it - ever heard of the menopause?

It's amazing how God has done such miracles in the family as it has grown! We're closer now than EVER. This means that your kids feel like they have nothing. They know that Mummy and Daddy aren't going to give them what they want. That's not fair.

I really feel sorry for the children of these people. They're not going to have the same kinds of opportunities as the kids of people who aren't having as many as possible. They won't be able to have nice things, and what nice things they do manage to get is going to be snatched away almost automatically by some sibling or other. They won't be able to have a really good relationship with their parents, because they'll have over 9000 siblings to contend with for parental supervision. And don't get me started on the money issue. How do you expect to pay for food and clothes and stuff for all of those kids? Money don't grow on trees, to borrow my dad's saying.

Then stop having kids! One child can be a handful, I couldn't imagine having 6 or 7.

Mainly through government assistance and charities through your church. Face it, if you have to get outside assistance to take care of all your kids, you shouldn't be having that many kids.

And then, a lot of them aren't.

And it's not. The older kids end up having to take care of the younger kids because mom is too busy/tired/frazzled to take care of them. And you just can't give each child the attention & love they need & deserve.

This attitude comes from two theological assumptions, both of which are either false or unbelievable:

1) There is no such thing as "natural forces" - God does everything that happens by direct, personal action. Example: if you drop a glass, it doesn't fall due to gravity - God decides for inscrutable reasons of His own - to reach in with His invisible hand and dash it to the floor, Otherwise it would just hover in thin air. This has clearly been proved wrong, or at least theologically improbable, by the fact that we can consistently control these actions. If God is personally deciding to make ever thing fall, why is it we can always control the effects of gravity? It means either we have control over God, or we don't have free will.

(2) God occasionally overrides natural forces in order to override free will, but only for those who send Him the appropriate telepathic message - Since conception is easily explainable by natural forces, the idea that God is involved in conception assumes that God occasionally decides, based on His own secret criteria, that conception should or should not occur as it naturally would without His interference.

You know, someone from the "No Longer Quivering" blog (a blog for former members of the Quiverfull movement) put it nicely. They said that not only does the movement put families in a box, it also puts God in a box. It basically implies that God Himself is obligated to care for families that live this way, that he has to do specific things for those who are righteous. This actually takes control away from God (which Quiverfull is so vehemently against). Statements like "God will provide for your family" takes away God's "divine right" to judge, by having His followers believe that He has to do it, without question.

That blog has some pretty horrific stories about the movement, and what former members, particularly women, went through.

1. If Stacy kept her eyes more on her reproductive system she might have fewer children than the number she already seems incapable of handling.

2. Of course you can afford more children. You must be livinh off Social Assistance and Charities. The rest of your countrymen and women will pay for you out of their own pockets (Taxes - something you know nothing about, most likely) for your lazy and irresponsible living/lifestyle

3. Stacy is not, repeat NOT the Virgin Mary. God does not place babies in her womb. It's because she is having too much (unprotected) sex. What a convenient way to turn one's irresponsibility into God's will!

4. When you have a tribe for a family it is too late for selfishness. You are too far advanced into selfishness to note it any more. That's all. So of course selfishness is already a given. It is established well and truly in the payouts from the state, charities, the church for the kids' and your day to day needs. This is called living hand to mouth. And the pattern is established for the kids, in their turn, to behave just like Mom & Dad and live off the rest of the world - or if they are lucky, flip burgers.

I think about the opportunitys kids from these large families miss out on .
Post secondary education in the Usa and Canada is extremely expensive .
Janitorial is pretty cheap and flipping burgers costs nothing .
Unfortunately these kids don't get to be doctors they don't get to be financial advisers or engineers or surgons, or anything worthwhile and lucrative . They will be forced to clean bathrooms , horse stalls , flip burgers , or perhaps they will become welfare recipients.
Because that will be gods plan for your kids you see his understands that the world is changing and wants to make sure I have sombody to serve me my morning coffee and to make sure there TP when I need to take shit because my parents thought ahead only had 2 children and I got to go to school and now I'm making money.
I feel sorry for the children of parents like the duggers.

1.) So if you're at your wits end with three, surely adding another brat or five shouldn't push you over the edge into a nervous breakdown, right?

2.) Yeah, well, I'm sorry, but until I hear about all the single mothers magically getting diapers and formula and whatnot from heaven, I'd prefer that people trust themselves and their own judgment, rather than mindlessly cranking out out kids.

3.) *Sigh* Yeah, trust and ages old Bible verse saying to populate the Earth and twist it to mean that it's every woman's God given duty to remain pregnant whenever humanly possible rather than doctors saying that there are risks involved with getting pregnant later. Because, I mean, what do they know? They just don't want to face the Infant Army of the LORD.

4.) Yeah, hevens forbid a kid feels special in his or her family, and not feel like a face in the masses there, and someone whose sole purpose is to be a babysitter when Mom decides she needs a nap. You bet they'll call you out on spopiling the younger ones, when they likely never had much of a childhood to begin with, being forced into the role of free babysitter.

Some interesting religious facts for inquiring minds and curious youngsters:-

a) God is the ultimate multitasker. He is simultaneously listening to millions of prayers every second, continuously, no let up until mankind becomes extinct. Not only that, but out of all those millions and millions of prayers each second, He selects the prayers asking for the most trivial of things, the most petty of entreaties, as the ones to which He will respond. The really important prayers He'll ignore, no matter how sincere the believer's plea. Clever stuff.

b) We can assume that God suffers quite badly from mental health problems, all that anger, all that need for flattery and worship, all the psychopathic behavior. All that fantasy drivel about sin and saving. And, what really nails it, He prefers the company of His fellow mental health sufferers.

c) God has an abiding interest in wombs. Some people like collecting stamps, or old coins, or are interested in taxidermy etc, but with God it's wombs. It's a good job that He'a bit of an expert multitasker, because what with all that attending to the prayers of the insane, He still has enough attention to keenly look after the wombs of believers and unbelievers alike, and not just human wombs, but all the animals too. That's a remarkable achievement you think, but there's more, all the trillions and trillions of non-terrestrial or alien wombs as well. And, believe it or not, there's womb for even more. He suffers from attention surfeit disorder.
