The sole reason there is a shortage of priestly vocations is this:
FAGGOTS.

Most of my friends are heterosexual. All of them didn't know I was gay before I met them. After they found out they just accepted it (well nearly all of them anyway) and we moved on. So either these demonic possessions really suck at being frightening or you're full of shit. I think it's the second one.

I think it has more to do with a shrinking religion combined with the celibacy thing, not to mention the refusal to allow female priests. You'd think the church would learn a thing or two, but no they're still stuck a thousand years back. It's now 2017 and only just now does the Catholic church have a pope who says maybe, just maybe, priests should be allowed to get married.

Maybe you could try pointing out that modern day culture doesn't promote celibacy as good thing for a man (Even less so than previous centuries, I mean.) and therefore the idea of a career involving life long abstinence is unappealing. You could point out that better preparation and training before taking vows would weed out more child molesters, not gays, child molesters which are two different things.

Because it surely couldn't be declining attendance, the millennia old practice of protecting child rapists, the rampant hypocrisy & the overall uselessness of your superstition. Replace "FAGGOTS" with "MARTIANS" or "LIGHTSABERS" or "TOASTER OVENS" or "AMOEBAS" and it would be the same.
Not every problem can be reduced to gays and muslims. The problem is more likely a result of the Church not allowing priests to marry and barring women from the priesthood. Lift both restrictions, and the Church might start getting more vocations.
