I guess Davy is talking about transgenic animals that contain a jellyfish gene/protein that causes biolumiscence. Used for cancer, stem cell and other kinds of research - and looks pretty cool.

Yep. I find that explaining what makes peppermint plants smell so good helps get this notion that all insecticides are 'zomg so bad' to humans cleared up pretty fast. Pulegonex is an insecticide produced by the peppermint plant and is found in mint oil, and is partially responsible for the scent of the plant. Because of its strong scent people have used it to flavor food and in perfume. So if someone is going to complain 'all insecticides = bad' then give their kiddies holiday peppermint sticks, they're a hypocrite.

Humanity is fairly good at heart. Human babies happily share toys with others, and comfort other babies who are unhappy. The other great apes are much more selfish. Discrimination and hatred have to be taught, they don't come naturally to most people (the exception being sociopaths and psychopaths).
