I've come down to the conclusion that Religious Frummery is a big exercise in insecurity in one's own masculinity.
A 2000 Year Old Jewish Proto-Hippie comes along, tells us to love one another, turn the other cheek, help the less fortunate, spoke the truth to power against the corrupt and powerful, etc.
Followers be like "MACHO! VIOLENCE! KILL! BRAWN BETTER THAN BRAINS! BLOW STUFF UP! BLOW STUFF UP!, etc."
It's like Klansmen who claim to follow Martin Luther King Jr....A complete Missing of the Point!

Ah yes, aggressive and violent expression of religion.
I can't think if a single case in which, right now, in, say Syria, that might possibly be going wrong.
Or, if you prefer a more Christian example, consider the Protestant/Catholic wars post-Reformation.
Because it worked so well during the Dark Ages, the WWII, the Troubles, right?
The Western civilization nowadays is what happened when the West moved AWAY from religion. If you want it the way it was before, move to the Middle East or to El Salvador.
