Oh gee, maybe because the kind of character assassination she's under now is the watered down version of what she'd have gotten 35 years ago and even to this day people still heap shame on women who get raped like it was their fault for leaving the house without being literally on a man's leash? The very "boys will be boys" dismissal that's being tossed around right now being an even stronger sentiment coupled with the logic that you don't want to "ruin a bright future" for an affluent young white man? Or that when the person you're accusing has influence and the advantage of closed doors it's sickeningly easy to make this shit go away and the intense public scrutiny of these confirmation hearings is that one alignment of the stars where such an accusation would matter enough to the right people to avoid getting hushed and be pursued to a truthful conclusion? I mean, 19 accusations slid right off of YOU so far with your admissions caught on tape so of all people in this world you should know the answer to those questions you fucking psychopathic geriatric toddler.

Somewhat sadly, with occasional exceptions, conservative abusers don't get "career annihilation". Mostly they just don't get promoted to a higher position of power. While liberal abusers mostly *do* end up ruined by it. This, of course, gets spun as "libs self-owning".
It's much better than nothing of course, but not as good as one might hope.

Except that back in the 80's we still lived in the climate of "what was she doing there in the first place?" and "what was she wearing?" Not to mention that if it were to go to trial the victim's entire past sexual history would be brought up, and then likely her attacker would be acquitted, especially if he's white and his family is rich and well-connected. All that on top of the emotional shame & trauma she suffered. I don't blame victims of sexual assault for not reporting it, since we still live with this attitude today even though change is occurring.

@Zinnia Same, here. Even if a guy nailed by #MeToo doesn't get jail time or even gets some sort of "comeback", his rep's ruined and he'll never be at the heights he was before.
Some DO get 100% Ruined. Cosby's in The Can and Kevin Spacey's latest flick only earned a few hundred bucks.
