Now, here's an interesting thought. Israel Finkelstein and Neil Silberman (controversial Israeli archaeologists) have made the point that under Omri and Ahab, the Northern Kingdom of Israel was at the top of its game while at the "righteous" kingdom of Judah was an agricultural backwater of no particular interest, and that the authors of the Bibles' big problem with Israel was its unrepentant multiculturalism (which would make Judah's situation to be more pious Amish-style slumming than anything else). Now there's more to it than that (Israel's elitism vs. Judah's playing to its peasantry), but it does make me wonder if the intent of the book/movie "The Postman" was to provide the flipside to the book of Revelation, where the believers in Revelation became the survivalist thugs of "The Postman", wiping out civilization in order to promote their own interests and prejudices.
I dunno, I guess that seemed connected at the time.
PhantasyElementz: We're not died-in-the-wool conservatards, that's what's wrong. Oh, and we're too similar to communists, which makes us members of the evil Red horde.
Let's see. The anti-Christ, i.e. the opposite of Christ, would pursue the following:
- Policies that ignore and marginalise the poor while further entrenching them in poverty.
- War- and fearmongering.
- Lie to the population and lead it under false pretenses.
- Claim to represent God, when they in fact do not have a direct phone line to Heaven.
Sound like a Republican you voted for, Billnew? Yeah, I thought so.
Confused?
