What gets me about "Nativists" is that they never consider that ALL first-generation immigrants start off "not fully assimilating". These dolts were saying the same thing about Jews, Italians, Germans and Irish over a century ago.
Look at me, now! I'm Italian-American! I'm indistinguishable from any other white, English-speaking American!
Also; WHAT'S WRONG WITH RETAINING SOME WAYS FROM THE "OLD COUNTRY"? That's what makes countries like the USA and Canada awesome!
Besides! If you really wanna be a "True-All-American", you'd better brush up on your Alaskan, Alogonquin, Athabaskan, Caddoan, Iroquoian, Muskogean, Siouxan, etc. languages, don some buckskin or a Parka, eat pemmican, play LaCrosse, worship deities like Wankan-Tanka or Kokopelli and....well....BE A REAL AMERICAN!
(Sorry for the mix & match. I'm well aware that American Indigenous cultures are super-varied and different the 'Tribes' should be better described as 'Nations'. An Apache and an Iroquois have as much in common as Spain & Poland. I also prefer the term 'Indigenous Americans' or 'Indigamericans' over 'Native American' since the later is vague and brings up stuff like 'The natives are restless'. I also like the Canadian term, 'First Nations/People'.)
