Sure, I occasionally indulge in the momentary fantasy of my daughter as a detransitioner, someone who came to her senses, and realized the whole attempt to play-act at being male is, at best, pointless folly, and, at worst, Guantanamo Bay level psychological and physical torture. But I don’t dwell in that place.

Besides, even thinking of my daughter as a detransitioner is still acknowledging that she’ll never not be someone touched by “trans,” just as an addict is always an addict. She’ll always be touched by trans - trans or detrans. I can no longer hope for my daughter to get out of this unscathed and just move on as if it never happened.

But you keep going back to it, and shining a spotlight on the malicious demonization.
You don’t get points for pretending it’s momentary, these are the opinions you carry 24/7.

What an incredibly progressive view. When you die alone, don’t pretend it’s a surprise to anyone.

Your child being who they really want to be is more than just their hope.

Your despair is everyone else’s Schadenfreude.

There’s a degree of irony of being able to conceive of someone being trapped in a painful situation which is very difficult to escape… yet fail to understand that sometimes someone asserting and/or changing themselves in a dramatic fashion *is* the escape (or at least the attempt). And then maybe make things worse by doubling down and assuming the escape is actually the prison…

Except that addicts are singularly unhappy people facing physical and financial ruin, while transfolk who transition are happier than ever--only 1% reverse the process.

Just because you disapprove doesn't mean transitioning is a mistake.
