Well, in my country a large portion of the population is of Turkish descent, and most of them are Muslims. And guess what, they are perfectly normal people. One of the parties in my house is a Muslim family with a Pakistani father, and again, perfectly normal people, I have worked together with their daughter and I am in the same club as their son.

Interestingly, in Muslim theology, 'permissible' and 'mandatory' are two explicit and distinct categories, along with 'recommended against' and 'forbidden.'

@Brody: Actually, one of Allah's distinguishing traits within the cluster that is the God of Abraham is that Islam does not associate guilt with sex, as such. Only Christianity really does that outright, although it inherited a lot of that from Judaism, so eh.
Islam has a huge preoccupation with making sure there is no inappropriate sex, but as long as it's sex you're allowed to be having, according to da rules, Allah endorses having it and having fun. Well, for men. For women it's a little fuzzy, but still not actually countermanded.
