The person Forney is mocking has some serious issues with depression and the election was the last straw, along with the fear of losing insurance and access to health care. Trump did promise you all he'd repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood, which will leave thousands with nowhere to go for medical care.

Not that you're capable of caring, seeing as the primary thing I've learned about conservatives is that 'compassionate conservatism' is a contradiction in terms.

#1991466: Not everyone qualifies for medicare and many people are in the position financially that makes paying the ridiculously high costs of medical care impossible. Also, please name one charity that will provide for a person's full insurance needs (including meds and specialist care, or care for the special needs of the disabled).

By the way, during his campaign Trump said he would completely repeal Obamacare. Completely repeal means do away with entirely. Shall I post the definitions of both words for you?

Oh, and by the way, the government isn't paying for our insurance. The ACA doesn't do that. It makes it illegal for people like my children to be denied coverage for 'pre-existing conditions' due to their disabilities and brings down the monthly premiums. Prior to the ACA, we had to pay over $1500 a month for coverage. Now it's $647. My husband retired a year ago. If not for the ACA we would be uninsured.

Not only that, we kept our doctors.

The reason there are more people freaking out over this election than any in recent history is because Trump is an amoral, narcissistic compulsive liar. Here's the major difference:
In a normal election year, a candidate makes claims, and the other side gets ahold of those claims and riles up their base by misrepresenting them. Both sides do this.
In this year, Trump said things, and rational people were riled up by his direct quotes. No interference from the Democrat propaganda machine needed.

There really is a world of difference between being scared of propaganda and being scared because of statements made in full context directly by a person.

If you're not a millionaire, you should be scared because the Republican platform basically boils down to "make life terrible for everyone."

When I discovered that American health insurance - which is not guaranteed coverage by a long shot - ran in the ballpark of more than $500 a month for one person at the cheapest I just about shat myself. At the highest income bracket that will cover you for more than a year and there isn't a roundtable of investigators and executives (or a Death Panel, if you prefer) whose exact job within a company is to look for every possible excuse to deny it. And American hospitals are the most expensive on Earth specifically because doctors know that they will have to haggle with insurance companies so they highball their fees.

Given how *gleeful* you are at the idea someone might kill themselves and how detached you are from the concept of human suffering that you don't understand that tragedy and depression and hopelessness all pile on to a greater sum than the individual triggers I have to conclude that appealing to either your rational sense or your human decency is a lost cause.

Mate, I was depressed as fuck when I was a teenager. Thought about suicide a lot, almost actually tried it. Suddenly, things started clicking in my head. Why kill myself? Isn't this world beautiful after all--isn't there always a new tomorrow? That's when I discovered the human spirit within me that nowadays dictates my every action now. Many things suck in life, but there's no need to kill myself.

Based on my own experience, I'm just guessing that if depressed people re-evaluate their life choices, re-evaluate themselves, they might find something in life. However, it is true that the majority need psychiatric drugs, then they should be given them, at affordable costs (thankfully generic drugs exist and Big Pharma can't control the price). I know I did, for a time, now I don't take them, and I still have my positive spirit.

I'm not bashing any healthcare--Trump's take on this will be an abject failure, like Obamacare was. The principle of Obamacare is horrible--makes insurance companies rich and jacks up quite a few people's costs (i.e., my parents, yes, I'm middle class, so was Karl Marx, now STFU). Well, helps the economy of Connecticut, I guess (no surprise it's a blue state!).

I firmly support more psychiatric care for depressed people--to stop you from making a decision you would have regretted. But when people are killing themselves over Trump's election, that's just a complete joke, and I notice the mainstream media is promoting this more than it ever should be.

Last September I almost killed myself by strangulation with a scarf. I managed to stop myself before breaking down.

The DWP had determined that I was fit to work via one of their Worthless Crap Assessments. Thoughts of how I had been accused of lying, how nobody was listening to me or taking my mother's concerns seriously and how, if I got through this and won an appeal- I would only have to go through it all over again because the British political class think that it is fine and dandy to sacrifice the health, wellbeing and lives of sick and disabled people on the altar of austerity.

Fortunately I've managed to go from wanting to kill myself, to just curling into a ball and crying and occasionally puking my guts out right before I have to go to the Job Centre.

Maybe you should take a closer look at the operations of your own government, 'cause Obamacare making the insurance companies rich wasn't in the original plan. Of course, after the Republicans got ahold of it and rewrote it...

Ironically, they then rejected their rewrite because Obama!

Originally, there was supposed to be a public option in Obamacare; government-backed insurance that would compete directly with the insurance companies and act as a control on insurance prices. Repubs didn't want that, and neither did a handful of big-business Democrats who voted against the public option. There was also supposed to be a Medicaid expansion option in Obamacare to help make it affordable to poorer people; that was turned into a state option, and the Republican states proceeded to refuse it.

I think half the reason that Forney and the rest of the "manosphere" voted for Trump is because they think that now that he's been elected, they're finally going to get a girlfriend.

I completely understand why people are suicidal about this upcoming administration, and not just people with health problems. I don't condone it, but who am I to stop an adult who, in the face of impending death, wants to go out on their own terms?

Depending on weather Trump has a mind of his own, or his handlers speak through him, a lot of his policies will have detrimental effects on many people. Women, trans people, LGBT youth, people of color, Muslims, disabled people, the poor, the elderly... and that's just his policies. His fan base, however, is on the warpath NOW, with even children torturing their classmates, and bullying them worse than ever. The most deplorable people in this country are showing their true colors now, and I fear it will be worse in the next four years. Expecting insurance companies to ignore pre-existing conditions is like getting a car insurance after the accident. It doesn't work, and if you force it on these companies all that will happen is they will have to increase the price of the insurance for EVERYONE ELSE.

Here's an idea, maybe Hillary lost largely because she didn't represent the interests of the American people first and because she's dishonest beyond belief and corrupt to the core even by 2nd world standards (the e-mail scandal is probably something you would expect to find in Africa - the parts that have Internet anyway). She displayed complete contempt for the American border itself (which she seems to think is optional and everyone who comes in, legally illegally doesn't mater, all should get a path to citizenship). She also cares more about the interests of Syrian refugees than actual American (or even NATO ally) citizens. Her policies would not only fuck over America but fuck over every single American ally who would be pressured to also take in many more refugees.

It's nothing short of comical that you try to direct attention at Ethiopian healthcare instead of France, England, Germany, Canada, Norway, or even fucking Cuba for that matter. They do more and it not only costs them less but their citizens live longer and healthier lives. A guy like Stephen Hawking would have been left for dead in America. Instead he's one of the greatest minds of the modern era. Things like diabetes or cancer are caught early with regular screening, something the average American either can't afford or fears would drive up their rates.

Sorry but doesn't work like that. You have to acknowledge the failures and for the most part, they're pretty shitty compared to the American system. If the American system is so bad we should expect to see it in the bottom 10% or so.

There's also the problem of antibiotic resistance.

Now a universal healthcare system typically has many regulations and price controls on meds.

How is that going to encourage people to invest billions into inventing new antibiotics to replace the ones that don't work well anymore? They can't make a profit (due to price controls) or they can't make a reasonable one that justifies the effort and risk.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but people work better when they're free. The free market can innovate better than government can.

Americans die younger, have more chronic conditions, have a higher infant mortality rate, have more expensive medication, and invest less in research than they do marketing. Drug companies have no reason to cure an ailment when it is more profitable to manage it over a lifetime, but countries you dismiss as "socialized" invest in cures and it pays off quite handsomely. Whether from government grants in which case the population is investing in it's own longevity or private investors who see reduced but steady income even with controlled pricing.

I think I'm entitled to what I pay for. A Brit pays into the NHS and they're going to get exactly what they paid for when they need. Constantly improving functionality gives people a reason to upgrade - make continuous purchases - with or without competition so bad example. It becomes an even worse example considering patents and monopolies within the medical industry, which to you would be the appeal to investors. As for having no incentive to actually cure a disease you only make money on your product when it has a use. Eliminate the disease your product treats and you only have a one off purchase, not a continuing profit like you'd get from merely suppressing it. If you honestly think a prohibitively expensive one-off buy is the more profitable route you'd last twenty minutes sitting in on a board meeting at any company. Less if you're this lippy as a gofer.

Try to convince people it's worth paying you, some jackass who prioritizes their money over their lives and considers every single woe to befall them their own fault and just desserts, to begrudgingly provide them the care they need for an exorbitant cost. I obviously do, seeing as having two children with disabilities has given me years of navigating through both. I suspect if you were in my position you'd welcome whatever little bit of help you could get too. My daughter's meds are outrageously expensive, and without them she headbangs, self-injures and attacks other people. You can't imagine what it's worth to a parent to get that under control.

Theif? Hardly. My husband worked for almost fifty years and I work full time now. We pay into the system just like everyone else. How the fuck was I supposed to change my lifestyle to avoid having children with disabilities, you fucking dolt? As for saving money, we ran ourselves into tremendous debt with all of the testing and therapy our children needed - which we paid off ourselves, sans assistance. We worked our asses off to do it.

So excuse me if I don't feel guilty for getting a break on insurance that would otherwise be denied my children so they can be taken care of. We don't accept any public assistance and we contribute taxes the same as you.

If you don't like the ACA, you have every right not to use it. What you don't have the right to do is assume that people who use it are sucking the system (and their fellow taxpayers) dry while providing for their families. Even prominent conservatives use it.
