U.S. Rep. Steve King told the Westside Conservative Club Wednesday that humanity might not exist if not for rape and incest throughout human history.

"What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?" he said in Urbandale, Iowa. "Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can't say that I was not a part of a product of that."

The Kiron Republican was discussing his defense of not allowing exceptions for rape and incest in the anti-abortion legislation he tried to pass in Congress. Republican leadership had prevented bills he sponsored on banning abortions from advancing through the House, despite GOP support for the measures, King said.

Just because a conception happened in bad circumstances doesn't mean the result isn't a person, King, who is Catholic, argued.

"It's not the baby's fault for the sin of the father, or of the mother," he said.

A Marion man, who allegedly claims to be a citizen of heaven rather than a U.S. Citizen, has been charged in federal court in Cedar Rapids with making a false claim on his taxes.

Richard Lee Mellor, 53, has been indicted on a charge alleging that he sent a tax return to the Internal Revenue Service claiming a refund of about $240,000.

A press release from the U.S. attorney's office in Cedar Rapids says that according to information disclosed in court, the amount claimed represented the taxes that Mellor paid in previous years. Mellor allegedly claimed the taxes were paid in error, in part, because the United States is a fictional entity and he is not subject to the jurisdiction of the IRS.

"Mellor also allegedly disclaimed his U.S. citizenship and claimed, rather, to be a citizen of heaven," the press statement said.

Mellor appeared in court in Cedar Rapids on Thursday and was released on bond. He faces a possible maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

The trial is set for Nov. 3.

Thats what she gets for working in a hooters. If she didn't want to be in an abusive realtionship she should have found Jesus or have gone to church more. These are the types of young woman who go around crying "rape." Hooters doesn't have to pay her anything. I'm going to pray for that young woman.
