Pro-Brexit protesters block off Aldi depot ‘because it's a German company'

A small group of Brexit supporters blocked off access to an Aldi supermarket depot in apparent protest against the company's German heritage.

Around five protesters arrived in cars and camper vans and blocked Chester High Road, Norton, on Wednesday night.

Footage published by local media shows the group brandishing placards while wearing Union Jack flags.

A man with a microphone can be heard shouting "this is Brexit at its best" in the clip.

Another woman, with a flag wrapped around her head, was heard saying: "We are here."

The group's intention was unclear however reports on social media suggested they were demonstrating because Aldi is a Germany company.

One person on Twitter wrote that the group shouted: "Aldi is a German company, we want Brexit."

The protest was quickly mocked online as some pointed out that one of the camper vans was German-made.

Ian Harris wrote: "They'll be so cross when they realise where their Hymer campervan was made."

Hymer is a motorhome company that was founded near Bad Waldsee, Germany, in 1923.

Others noticed that the demonstrators were wearing clothing from other countries.

Maff Michaels responded to the Liverpool Echo's Facebook story: "None of the vehicles, clothes, flags that they have are British."

While Rob Walker joked: "Alexa - show me the stupidest Brexit protest to date."

A spokesman for Cheshire Police told the newspaper they were called to the scene to reports of a "peaceful protest".

A spokesman added: "The report came in at 9.40pm and officers attended the scene and spoke to all involved and there was minimal disruption."

“We were there to teach them that just because they are living among non-Muslims is no excuse because Sharia law will be implemented in Britain, and so they should be aware that just because it is not Sharia today, they can’t just do whatever they like.

“There will be no more pubs, no more gambling houses, no more national lottery.

“All women would have to be covered up appropriately and wear the niqab or veil and so there will be no prostitution. By 2050, Britain will be a majority Muslim country. “It will be the end of freedom of democracy and submission to God. We don’t believe in democracy, as soon as they have authority, Muslims should implement Sharia. This is what we’re trying to teach people.”

Ken Livingstone #racist standard.co.uk

Ken Livingstone was today suspended from Labour in disgrace after plunging the party into a new anti-Semitism storm.

The former London Mayor sparked fury by claiming that Adolf Hitler was “supporting Zionism” before he “went mad and ended up killing six million Jews”.

During a surreal few hours in Westminster, Jeremy Corbyn's close ally also spoke of a “well-orchestrated campaign” by “the Israel lobby” in comments that immediately provoked a wave of criticism.

A Labour spokesman said: “Ken Livingstone has been suspended by the Labour Party, pending an investigation, for bringing the Party into disrepute.”

He was later confronted by furious Labour MP John Mann, who branded him a Nazi apologist and accused him of "rewriting history".

A Labour spokesman said Mr Mann, MP for Bassetlaw, has now been summoned to Chief Whip Rosie Winterton to explain his actions.

Mr Livingstone's suspension came after Labour's current mayoral candidate, Sadiq Khan, led calls for him to be kicked out of the party.

Jeremy Bedford- Turner #racist standard.co.uk

An anti-Semitic protest attended by just 12 far-right supporters in north London has been branded “pathetic” and “sad” by leading Jewish groups.

A handful of people turned up for Saturday’s protest at the war memorial in Golders Green, an area with a large Jewish population, and held up a banner with the slogan “This is London not Tel Aviv”.

Another banner labelled the Shomrim, a north London Jewish neighbourhood watch group, “police impersonators”.
To occasional boos and jeers speaker Jeremy Bedford-Turner made a long, rambling speech telling people “the future is white”.

Footage was later uploaded to YouTube, with the description claiming it had been held “deep inside The Jewish Republic of North London”. The video culminated in Mr Bedford-Turner waving a pork pie in the air before taking a bite.

Their protest came less than a year after a previous anti-Shomrim march planned for the area was moved to central London after a coalition of campaigners called for it be relocated.

Mark Gardner from the Community Safety Trust, who helped get that event moved, said: “The demonstration was quite pathetic.

“But it’s still disturbing that they wanted to come to Golders Green and quite sickening to think of these people defiling a war memorial by their presence.”

Jonathan Arkush, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, branded the demonstrators “a handful of sad people”.

He said: “I saw on the organisers’ video one of them ranting away for 25 minutes while one of his mates was trying to get him to shut up.

“The ranting man ate a pork pie which he seemed to think would cause Jews offence. Well, I’ve got news for him. We have no problem at all with anyone eating pork, it’s just that we don’t.”

Nabih al-Wahsh #sexist standard.co.uk

An Egyptian lawyer has sparked outrage after saying women who wear ripped jeans deserve to be sexually harassed and raped.

Nabih al-Wahsh, a prominent conservative, said it was part of the “national duty” to rape women wearing such garments, adding that girls who wear revealing clothing are inviting men to harass them.

He made the controversial comments during a current affairs talk show called Infirad on satellite channel AI-Assema.

The panel were having a heated debate on a draft law on prostitution when al-Wahsh asked: "Are you happy when you see a girl walking down the street with half of her behind showing?"

He added: “I say that when a girl walks about like that, it is a patriotic duty to sexually harass her and a national duty to rape her.”

Dr Christian Jessen #conspiracy #racist standard.co.uk

Embarrassing Bodies star Dr Christian Jessen has said that Italy’s coronavirus lockdown is “an excuse” to “stop work” and “have a long siesta” in a series of controversial remarks.

Jessen, 43, told FUBAR Radio’s Access All Areas that he believed the virus to be “like a bad cold really” and claimed that people are “more worried than we need to be.”

“This might be a little bit racist to say this, but you’ll have to make apologies, but do you not think it’s a bit of an excuse?” he said.

“The Italians, any old excuse to, you know, shut down everything and stop work for a bit and have a long siesta.”
