May I share a true story with you all. I have spent my life nursing and have held many a hand of the dying, 2 men in my ward, Both were masonic atheists, Both men as they lay dying were screaming and kicking yelling "Help me the Devils are coming" I am not kidding. These poor men died in pure terror. I mean pure utter terror. I managed to get another nurse to pray over one man with me. But it was to late:( ...My precious beautiful Nana as she was dying looked straight through me and said "Jesus" in amazement and then she put out her hand's and said " kingdom come" that was beautiful. But those men I can never forget ever, please take heed death comes to us all.

I understand that one of the requisites for being a Mason is belief in the existence of a supreme being, thus making ‘Masonic atheist’ an oxymoron.

And then everyone clapped, and a teary-eyed marine veteran said “Sir! Sir! That was the most touching death ever, god bless your Nana” to you. :D

I don’t think you’re kidding. That would require humor. I think you’re lying for Jesus. But even if this is GOSPEL, i don’t trust the testimony of people who are dying. Literally, their bodies are not functioning correctly. Not the ultimate source of truthiness, or compelling testimony.

Very few of us go happily into the great dark. But why should i take their word?

And, about that. Don’t we go to ST. Peter, up at the gates, for judgment before we end up demon fodder in Hell?
They shouldn’t be fearing demons until the Last Trump, should they?

Heh... well, if anything is true, delirium is unfortunately common in hospitals. I don't believe for an instant that they were masons, or that anything terrible they saw in their delusions was real, though.

I’ve decided whatever happens, I want to die like my grandmother. She lived to 102 and by the time she did die she was just so tired of living she didn’t care what came next. She died with no fear at all, and definitely not saying any of the stupid shit this asshole is talking about.

I find it hard to believe that dying men were screaming and kicking. Dying in a hospital bed usually isn't an energetic affair.

Sure, that happened. Shouldn't you be more concerned with what Jesus will think of your lies?

I can get that. My grandmother is still alive at over 90 years old and has already outlived her husband. Combined with her weakening body, it’s clear that while she doesn’t wish for death, she’s not unwelcoming or afraid of it either. She realizes she’s lived a full life and at this point she could hardly care less if she drops dead tomorrow. She even once told my dad (her son) not to literally drop everything and come rushing at her when the news would break of her eventual death. She doesn’t want our lives to be inconveienced by her death.

Anyway, I can respect that and in a way even envy that.

Apparently, while many take refuge in religion in relation to their fear of death, that fear would be diminishing with age in both the religious and non-religious. If a remaining source of anxiety is the fear of divine judgement after death, the non-religious may have even less reasons to fear. Then even if religious, as we know, there are many good reasons not to believe in eternal torment, it's only one of many doctrines, afterall...
