We can argue that the similarities are actually evidence for a common Designer. Why wouldn’t God create living things using similar principles? After all, an artist or builder will often create different works with a similar design.

If OP wished to be honest they'd admit they don't understand evolution

The false premise that evidence of evolution would instead be evidence of a common god of the gaps. This would be one of the many evidence paths, comparative physiology. Read about the evidence of descent with modification and natural selection to know more.

We can argue that the similarities are actually evidence for a common Designer

Until you find said designer and can also explain its origins, that's a fallacy, a hasty conclusion. Then why did it create all those imperfections? Why did optical organs evolve multiple times, each with their limitations? Why is the vas deferens route illogical (except if understanding how it evolved)? Why are humans too stupid to see the creator? Why are they allowed to realize that they came about through natural means when being intellectually honest? Why is your god one among many and far from the first one? Why do humans invent deities? Why did some mammals return to water when there already were other species adapted to it, and ratained features of their ancestors, like hind limbs, lungs, mammal glands and warm blood?

And why does your particular version of evolution denial also deny all the strong evidence of an old earth?

It is not mere similarity, but a very peculiar pattern of nested similarities extending through all organisms - different groups of similar organisms bear similarities that allow them to be placed together into a greater group, that can then in turn be grouped together with other similarity-based groups of similarity.based groups, and so on, on any scale of granularity, to the very roots of the tree.
